The last book I read was called 'The Dice Man' by Luke Rhinehart. It is about a shrink that starts making life choices with the throw of a dice. Be warned though, there are some topics that people may find triggering. It was banned in several countries when it first published.
"The Art of Fielding", by Chad Harbach. I didn't think I would like it, but I did.
Also, this is one I haven't read in a really long time, but it was a great book (and a great time consumer)... "Infinite Jest", by David Foster Wallace. Unfortunately the author has since committed suicide...
I usually read books about people with drug problems, eating disorders, depression etc. I have a list of favorites that I'd love to share

But generally speaking the Doctor Who books are very good. Same goes for the Stargate novels.

Currently reading the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, fantastic series, even if its a little preachy at times - no matter how down I am, he always makes me laugh.
I'm also reading the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Good story, abominable writing; the dialogue is pure cheese, there's a bit too much deus ex machina to hold water, and with the exception of one or two recurring characters, the hero and heroine of each book are basically the same exact characters from the previous books over and over again - and really, the same romance again and again in each book. But the premise of the overarching series as a whole is so intriguing that I can't leave it alone; I keep hoping she'll get better... so far, no. Its the very definition of 'trashy romance novel', but with vampires and Greek gods.
And I'm finally going to give in and start the Shannara books by Terry Brooks. That should kill a few years. Same for the 'Wheel of Time' series by Robert Jordan, and I want to read Brandon Sanderson's new-ish book "Way of Kings", but its over 1000 pages long, and just looking at the binding scares me a little...
"The sun set the clouds to burn as it sank, raging, into the looming night: a fire in the sky marking the fall of all things bright and blazing into a sea of cold darkness, and in its final defiant fury, its specter lent death a fierce and passionate beauty..."
"Kill me," I begged, and love said, "No." ~ HIM
In April when I was inpatient I read The Fault in Our Stars. Oh my god, I was in love with it. Yeah, it's a young adult book, but I loved it.
Insanity is knowing that what you're doing is completely idiotic, but still, somehow, you just can't stop it.
