What are the difference between these Mental Health Professionals?

What is the difference between a Mental Health Clinical Social Worker, Mental Health Psychologist, and a Mental Health Physician? I know that schooling is probably different. Do any of them have the ability to prescribe? Also, is there a difference between Behavioral health and Mental health? If so what is it so I know what kind of Dr. I should go see. Thank you!!

The only ones that can prescribe medication is a doctor your gp or a psychiatrist Mental Health Physician is a doctor so yes can to
A social worker and a psychologist do not prescribe medication
If you have a mental health problem then a psychiatrist or psychologist are licensed to diagnose you with what is wrong
A social worker cannot diagnose but they work with what illness you have been diagnosed with therapy councilling

A social worker cannot prescribe medication , either can a psychologist. A mental health physician can prescribe. I think your best bet would be to start with your general practitioner and work from there.

Hi currently in New Zealand there are changes being made to who can prescribe meds. Psychologist are now being ask to prescribe the very medications they are trying to work toward getting patients off. And in some cases Pharmicist are able to do an extra bit of study and will be able to prescibe some meds. This is very worrying but will see what the result is.

I wish psychologist here could prescribe meds as they are the ones that see the clients most and some do understand that medication with therapy you get better results in healing
