A Broken Heart

Time for an update -

I started my cardio rehab today, I think it went well. There was a stationary bike, treadmill, and a machine to work my arms. It seemed to go well, but I'm feeling it in my muscles. My breathing was good, and blood pressure and heart rate were good. I was told that the next sessions will be more intense.

I think I'm ready

peace
:)

Sounds positive. I love the stationary bike here, great for if you want to take it easier or push a bit. I hope things go in very positive directions for you.

How's the first week with rehab been going for you?
I was wondering this too.
Hi - It's going well. This week, the therapists have been explaining the machines, and goals, short term and long term. They have been taking it easy on me so far, gradually increasing either the resistance, or the amount of time I spent on each of the machines. I have been using muscles that haven't seen much activity in years, so I've been pretty sore after each session. I haven't noticed any shortness of breath, which is a symptom that had been affecting my life and limiting me.
There are about 8 others, roughly my age, also getting rehab, so I like the atmosphere.
All in all, pretty positive

Thanks for asking

peace
:)

Here's an update, 2 months after surgery. It is actually called a "minimally invasive procedure", performed with robotic tools and techniques, through incisions in my right side. The recovery time was less than that of a typical open-heart surgery. From check in to check out was less than 80 hours. Although there was some intense pain after the operation, there wasn't a lot of pain after I got home, I decreased my pain meds within a couple of days and had quit entirely within a week. I started my cardio rehab about 5 weeks after surgery, and probably could have gone sooner if there had been an open spot for me. My muscles are still sore from the rehab sessions, and one of my actual fears is true - it's boring. Other than that, it's a friendly atmosphere, and I've been pushed to stress my muscles, heart and lungs some, but it's not beyond what I'm capable of.
I seem to have put on a couple of pounds, which is welcome. I may be able to breathe a little deeper, and don't tire quite as quickly.
I'm told the real improvement starts at 12-16 weeks, so I'll probably start noticing more positive results soon.

peace
