Serenity Prayer

Did you know that this possibly the most famous prayer - after the Lord's Prayer - of all has a second part that is just as beautiful as the first one?

SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept
The things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

There is also a less well known, but equally beautiful part:

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would like it to be.
Trusting that God will make all things right,
If I but surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely so with Him, forever in the next.

The courage to live

THE COURAGE TO LIVE
To those who have tried and seemingly failed,
Reach out, dear Lord, and comfort them today;
Those whose hopes have been dimmed,
And whose faith has paled,
Lift into the radiance of Your Divine torch of wisdom, I pray,
And help them to trust again.

To all who are frightened, Lord, reach out a hand.
To all who are hurt and helpless, come as their friend.
Baffled and blind, they fail to understand the true purpose of life.
They believe that this dark and tangled road is the end.

Touch with the flame of Your Heavenly fire all hope that has burned low
And rekindle all faith that has gone dead.
Help us, each one, to steadfastly go
Following Your guidance that comes from within
And lights for us all the way ahead.

Those who are stumbling and falling by the wayside,
Help them to get up and walk among their fellow men,
With love in their hearts and with faith and courage to try –
Whenever it’s necessary, all over again.

I have loved reading the words written here.

I would love to know how they found out it uses more muscles to frown rather than smile. Ive been told this a lot but cant work out where it comes from.

Smiling and frowning

'...I would love to know how they found out it uses more muscles to frown rather than smile.
Dear Hornbeam - its good to know that you are enjoying the prayers that have been posted on this thread.

As far as the smiling and frowning is concerned, I don't know how this was established. But, just take a moment and try it for yourself, the way I did a couple of minutes ago. First smile - then let your face drop into a frown. The frown doesn't seem to take any effort with me, but lifting my face into smile certainly does.

Follow your Dreams

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS
If, while pursuing distant dreams,
Your bright hopes turn to grey,
Don’t wait for reassuring words
Or hands to lead the way.

For seldom will you find a soul
With dreams the same as yours.
Not often will another help you
Pass through untried doors.

If inner forces urge you
To take a course unknown,
Be ready to go all the way,
Yes, all the way –
If need be, all alone.

That’s not to say we shouldn’t
Draw our lessons from the best;
Just don’t depend on lauding words,
To spur you on your quest.

Find confidence in your own heart
And let it be your guide.
Strive ever harder towards your dreams –
And they won’t be denied.

For example:
‘Say (O Muhammad): Behold what is in the Heaven and the Earth!
But revelations and warnings avail not folk who will not perceive.’
