Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's controversial appearance at Columbia University Monday began with harsh, combative words from protestors, politicians and even the university president -- who introduced the hard-line leader to a packed auditorium as "a petty and cruel dictator" with "a fanatical mindset."

"Today, I feel all the weight of the modern civilized world yearning to express the revulsion at what you stand for," Columbia University president Lee Bollinger said in a stinging rebuke of Ahmadinejad that also defended the university's decision to invite him to speak. "We do not honor the dishonorable when we open our forums to their voices."

Combative and engaging, Ahmadinejad was quick to respond, contending that Bollinger's introduction contained "many insults and claims that were incorrect" and that the audience should be allowed to draw its own conclusions after hearing him speak.

Regardless of their government, I have to say every Iranian I've met was a top person. Incredibly hospitable, interesting people with a mind of their own.

  3. Haven't made up my mind about the guy, yet. But I think I like him. I hate Bush and I love Hugo Chavez. And I hate the USA as a whole. Republicans are the real terrorists.

I think the way he was "introduced" was really pathetic. Regardless of what the guy thinks of him he was invited, you don't invite someone into your home and trash them.

Personally, I feel that the US is just trying to pick a fight with Iran. I might be a US citizen but I think my country has behaved like a spoiled brat since 9/11. It's one thing to be hurt and angry and upset and want justice for something but it's another to think that gives you the right to just kill indiscriminately in some kind of endless quest for revenge. How many shall we kill before it's enough?

As far as this guy goes, I originally thought it was a good idea to invite him for debate or whatever but it's now obvious the only reason they invited him there was to give him the equivalent of a verbal public stoning.

The reality of the world is that you sometimes have to give a little to get a little with people you don't like. We dealt for decades with belligerent leaders from the Soviet Union because we had to. We were forced to be diplomatic because we couldn't just roll over them militarily. I always thought that was one of our greatest accomplishments. But now we've adopted this militant attitude that's just sickening.

I don't like the Iranian government any more than anyone else but perhaps if we didn't have a vulgar idiot in the WH, there would be some kind of hope for diplomacy.

You do realize that the Iranian government hangs homosexuals.
I thought they might have pissed you off.

I guess you don't fuck with the US.

RCC, Iraq didn't fuck with the US, so what is that war all about? I agree with Random, I also know things have gotten worse and will contiue on a downward spiral with the moron we have in office.

Hussein did not comply with UN orders.

You and many other brainwashed pawns.

That is untrue, the economy is better then it's been in sometime, the United States haven't been hit by Islamofacists and homosexuality is still outlawed in many states.

  9. The USA has in recent years hanged teenagers. Also, the USA just abolished its sodomy laws.

So, why should Iran follow you, now? When yesterday you had these same things you're now calling out.

Iran is a democracy. It's kinda ironic, that you dictators want to impose your way of thinking to the world.

Why are you telling me they hang homosexuals? That's rare. You know what's more frequent in the USA? I won't say, cuz the moderators are too strict.

You don't have the right to say anything to Iran. They have low rates of murder and rape. And, no porn or anything.

I'm glad they hang pornographers and perverts.

Your nation is much worse, and your president is an idiot. And he represents well your country.

    Long Live Ahmadinejad.

    Amen, praise Jesus.

    What? Haha.

    Too bad...

    Huh?

I'm a dictator? And technically Iran is not a democracy, it's an Islamic Republic.

So you know before you visit?

Which is why I love Iran

    Good.

    You're very ignorant.

I don't understand why the US, and many other countries, are so terribly against Iran getting nuclear power. As much as I hate theocracies, Iran really is far less bad than many other countries, yet you often do not hear much criticism, at all, for these other, exceptionally bad countries. Burma, for example... the only reason people talk about it, right now, is because people have started protesting, there.

Iran's excessive use of oil has lead to extremely bad smog, so there are many reasons why they could merely want nuclear power, and not atomic bombs. Just because the leaders of Iran are undemocratic theocrats, doesn't mean they want to start bombing the whole world.

  12. ''Since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976, 22 people have been executed for crimes committed under the age of 18. 21 were 17 at the time of the crime, one, Sean Sellers, executed on February 4, 1999 in Oklahoma, was 16. The last person to be executed for a crime committed as a juvenile was Scott Allen Hain on April 3, 2003 in Oklahoma.''

Ok, so, they weren't actually teenagers, when they got executed, but they're getting executed for something they did as teenagers.

Now, you're gonna say, that's only 22 cases. Well, how many homosexuals are being executed in Iran.

    You amplify and distort facts.

Iran is a different civilization, they have nothing to envy from you people.

The west is a filthy place. I love Muslim culture and Mahmoud. I dunno, tho, about Islam. I don't believe in God, but I prefer this Mohammed character to Jesus.

It is really arrogant of us (USA) to tell other countries not to develop nuclear power, or weapons. There are a lot of dangers that come from nuclear power, and lots of damage can be done to the environment (look at Chernobyl). As for how Columbia Uni. Prez. introduced Ahmadinejad, too bad. Ahmadinejad is a smart fellow and can defend himself well enough.

as for executions, USA has killed 22 teenagers since 1976? That's still 2 less then the number Iran has killed in the 1990s alone.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Child_Executions_Campaign#Recorded_Child_Executions_in_2007:

Not that I'm defending the USA for murdering 22 children.
But, USs military forces have (probably0 killed thousands of children over the past couple of years in Afganistan and Iraq.

How was not complying fucking with the US? It wasn't. Where is Bin Laden? He is the one who really fucked with us and here he is free as a bird.

The economy is good? Most people I know would disagree. The housing market is bottoming out, the price of everything is up, wages are stagnant. I don't know what fantasy world you are living in here.

As for the brainwashed pawns comment, you might want to look in the mirror if you honestly believe what you typed.

In what way did he "not comply with the UN" ? He was successfully disarmed was he not? Well, all except those "nucular" weapons, as the Americans like to call them, that our former PM said he could deploy "in 45 minutes". Oh no, wait a minute, that was a lie "fixed around the policy", wasn't it?

Didn't the US ignore the UN? I seem to recall that happening a while back.

As for Bin Laden, he died in December 2001, shortly after the US commenced bombing the Torra Borra mountains. The "Osama tapes" are all proven fakes. The only authentic tapes of Osama have him denying responsibility for 9/11 and suggesting that there is "a government within a government", in the US and that they are likely responsible for the attacks.

Bush is an idiot but porn is a speech issue and nobody has a right to ban it unless it's the kind that involves child abuse.

There's nothing perverted about liking sex. Our society has this pathological idea that sex for pleasure is fundamentally wrong. Porn is allowed in the US but there are a lot of people here who'd rather it not be. As far as I'm concerned, they can move to Iran if they don't like sexual freedom and free speech. In that way, Christians are just as bad as Muslims.

  19. I believe in the death penalty, torture-plus-execution, for anyone that approves of porn. And of course, for anyone that participates in it. And I'd volunteer being the executionner.
I'm doing what you tried to do, which is to impose your beliefs, unto others, as if it's the only truth. But me, I'm above anyone else. It doesn't work. Might as well stop.
I'm a much more sicker sociopath. You cannot win, cuz the truth is on my side. Cuz I'm the selfless genius, over here. Amen.

    Let me preach, now.

I think you're an hypocrit, because while you wouldn't want your daughter in it, you'd watch the neighbor's daughter. And it's this type of selfishness that is ruining the world.

    I hate hedonists.

I'm not gonna repeat what I've said on so many other threads.

Porn has pushed it as far as they could. I hate the direction in which this world is going.

I am not gonna make the slightest comprise, and change even one little thing from my ideals. I don't care if I come across as a radical, cuz in my mind, I'm 100% sure that I'm the biggest genius this world has ever seen.

We're stuck in such a system, that these pornographers can freely do their business. Me, I have not been entirely domesticated, socialized/modernized, brainwashed or conditioned, and redundantly STUPIDIZIED.

    See?

    Amen.

So, what should I add, now? What's there to add?

Let me give you links to my friend's Fred Phelps websites. Www.GodHatesFags.com, or www.godhatesamerica.com

    Amen.

    Let the revolution begin.

It's a pretty good indicator that this world has gone to hell....when hatred, of all things, is justified, and even glorified. There is too much ignorance in this world. I'm starting to think it would be better if humanity itself never existed.
