twowolves80 Darkness Incarnate; don't even bother

There is a sad, certain quality
to having lived a shadowed life--
    the lack of friends,
    the despondent lethargy,
    the lassitude of cognizance
that at the end of the road
    the gates of perdition wait.

    Life loses its vibrancy--
    the colors dulled,
    the senses deadened
with the aches of old age,
    the heart sick with regret,
    sorrow a constant friend.

    So when the last breath
    is drawn forth,
it is a relief, isn't it?
    The dead will never know.
