Does anybody take antipsychotics? It seems that a lot take antidepressants but not as many people take antipsychotics, is this true?

I'm taking zoloft, risperdal, and lithium. the risperdal is an antipsychotic but I don't know what the lithium is for.

I take lithium together with effexor. My doc said that the lithium is an antipsychotic. My pdoc also has me on risperidone. Not sure about that one, but believe it is in that category. Also on others but they are not antipsychotics but to help with anxiety and panic attacks, some to help fall asleep at night and one so that I can eat. Looks like a freakin bowl of smarties in the morning lol.

I take anti-psychotics because I have schizophrenia. I take one that seems like its mild and has no side-effects. If I don't take them I just don't think like myself.

I take Abilify which is an antipsychotic. A lot of people who are bipolar take antipsychotics. They are actually using them a lot now for ppl who have depression and need something to "augment" their antidepressant.

Just been started on Olanzapine which is an anti-psychotic but doesn't seem to be helping much..

As for Lithium, it tends to be prescribed as a mood stabliser and anti-psychotic

Lithium is a mood stabiliser, usually used for people with bipolar. I have never heard it described as an anti-psychotic, ever!!!

I've usually always been on anti-psychotics (though I'm not psychotic). My doctor says he uses it to help my "impulse" control. (My nasty impulsiveness causes me to OD or cut once too often.) He also says some (or all?) of them are "major tranquilizers" which is supposed to help me sleep, which I have a lot of trouble with. I actually just got off one a few weeks ago and next week he will be starting me on a new one - probably Navane.

I'm on risperdal, 2.5 mg, as an anti-psychotic. And boy, when it works, it sure works. When it doesn't, it sure doesn't.

I love it when it works, I hate it when it doesn't.

It also has a weird side effect of drooling..

yep i am, a low dose for, gosh, must be 3 months now! I was prescribed it for some random thoughts but also for anxiety i think too. It seems to have stabilised my moods quite well so i no longer feel like a crazy person! They do knock me out though, more on days when i'm naturally more tired - on those days i have been known to sleep through my alarm which really isn't like me!! Plus i dunno if this is the ADs or this med but my short term memory is totally shot! I make a joke out of it but actually it is causing a fair few problems! eek!
