So, I have a question as a 62 year old married to an 82 year old, I am realizing that my world is shrinking. We just got a puppy about 6 weeks ago, she's very cute and glad to have a dog again but also wondering how do I balance majority of puppy duties, attentiveness as a wife, and my well-being without guilt?...feel like this is pathetic rant so apologies...just struggling with finding that sweet spot of contentment I guess ...

i duno if it is the same thing, or if it will answer anything... in my opinion and experience, it doesn't matter what you are doing. If it is important to you, you will find that "Sweet spot". It will occur on it's own without trying. i look back at all i accomplished with my children and their disabilities. i do NOT know how i did it. i can't even begin to try n explain. All i do know is things got done, the kids know they are loved and cared about, they learned about life, they were healthy, and educated. Those things were very important to me... and somehow it all happened.

i guess what i am trying to say is, in my opinion and experience, you will find a way to make it all work in the best way for you.... most likely without even trying. No amount of worry made a difference. So enjoy to the fullest! Without apologies. You've got this!

You are so right and thank you. Also my quote of the day that I just read seems so apt as well thought would share

Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony.

First of all, congratulations on the new family member. How and why we feel that contented balance is what makes us who we are, makes our lives' stories. It's challenging but also interesting when life changes dramatically; this certainly happens with a puppy added to your home. Do you take care of all the puppy's needs on your own, or is your husbland able to lend a hand some of the time?

It's somewhat f a joint effort but I'm the majority of it... hardest part I think is that trainer comes and she's absolutely within control on leash...then me today...yup jumping meerkat!...lol...so adage is so true not puppy issues but owner issues...

I swear dog-trainers have some sort of magic sauce that the puppy perceives, whereas with owner, sseems we're in sibling territory, at least until we establish our pack leader status. I have succeeded with some dogs, and failed utterly with others. Good luck and have fun in between the harder bits. :)

Yes you are so right...it's as if I'm offering suggestions for behavior....lol. Hope you don't mind if I whine to you once in awhile. Know that it's all worth it as she will be a well-mannered happy friendly dog in the end.

You may regret that...lol!...so worried she ate some fluffy stuff off tennis ball type toy she's a heavy chewer with teething...but digestive tract still functioning and no end to playing and eating and Harold palpitated her belly so guess she's ok...
Glad to hear the little gal is OK. Always a good thing with furry family. :)

Thanks...just being a helicopter parent I think.

And @seabird admit am a bit at wits end as we have a handful with her given live in 55+ and her lack of socialization... translates to barking especially at other people which is needless to say disturbing/disconcerting to them and just mortifying for us. Realizing where we live adds to challenges as when lived up in mountains barking wasn't an issue...sigh...trying to just wear her out every day...if you told me a dog could play fetch for 2 hours I would have said..."Really?!"....lol

lol with you not at you, and partly in relief that it's not me trying to tire out and quieten down a puppy. I know everyone always says this but it's true: in 1 year's time your furry family member will make you very proud. The little pup's neurons just don't know how to do that yet. 🐶 I hope you're all getting enough sleep. :)

You at least give me hope...as today a quilt was on the back of a chair and you'd think it was Godzilla coming to eat her!....lol.
