A 19 year old kid posted on bodybuilding.com(a site known for being a disgrace to the weight lifting community) that he was going to kill himself, he was taunted relentlessly and the boy went through with overdosing on camera for many to watch.

This sickens me to no end. Over on this forum people are posting pictures making fun of this guy who killed himself and saying all types of disrespectful stuff about him. Are you serious? This guy killed himself! What the fuck is wrong with you?!

Bill O'reilly is going to do a segment on this and I hope that website gets shutdown(although it will suck that these people will flow onto other forums and spread their shit elsewhere). They are not only a disgrace to lifters everywhere but also human kind. I seriously hope charges are somehow brought on these people as this has to stop. I mean what is this world coming to? It saddens and sickens me.

Please let this be a reminder to everyone, as hard as it can be sometimes, whether or not someone seems like they just want attention, please treat them as if they are on the edge of doing something like this. Yes some people may be attention seeking, may be trolling, but what if that one person you are short with isn't? I will pray for this boy's family and for his soul. God help us.

Some more info... this just keeps getting sadder...

cliffs(courtesy:Bulker)

- CandyJunkie creates thread telling Misc. he'll overdose himself again on drugs live on Justin.tv
- CandyJunkie posts the amount of drugs he's going to take
- Mods don't take it seriously because of his past trolling
- People egg him on
- CandyJunkie posts a copied suicide note
- People keep egging him on
- He pops the pills and goes to sleep
- He breathes for a few hours, people think he's going to be alright and keep joking and trash talking on his JTV log.
- Some time later many people realize he was not moving.
- I find his personal details through E-detectivery, I figure out his name and number and location.
- Personal details posted on Misc. I request people to call the cops because I live in India and had no way to make International calls all by myself.
- People tell me he's a troll and nobody calls. Staberella especially is quite a huge cynic and says that he wasn't going to die on that kind of drugs, she insists nothing is going to happen and that people should just gtfo of the thread.
- I send an email to Miami Police on their official email on their website, Email not functioning!
- I call Miami Police from my dad's phone and speak to at least three cops and one person from the 911 line (whatever it is) for over 8 minutes about the situation, the people there do not take the case seriously and tell me to call the sheriff of his county, and give me the sheriff's number even after I told them I was speaking from a different country and that this was an emergency.
- I post the sheriff's number on the Misc. thread
- People tell me to quit worrying and that they're 100% sure its a loop and he's just fraudin'
-jjlee138 (Rep this dude) calls the Broward County Sheriff's office and speaks to them about the situation along with a couple of other people. By the time I called, it turns out 3 people had already called them about it.
- People wait for the cops to bust in on the JTV cam.
- Some people start thinking nobody called the cops, at least 5 more people call the cops, they were told the cops were on it
- 25 minutes after the first call to the cops, the cops bust in. They cover the webcam
- People speculating whether he's dead or not
- At this point of time a lot of people start deleting/editing their posts everywhere. PM me for the original thread content.
- Friends post messages on his myspace worried about him, no response from him.
- His best friend posts a thread on the Misc. and informs the people that he's dead.

That is horrible, dreadfully horrible!!! How can people be so blind and stupid to do such things? What in this world leads people to believe they are right about everything and follow those who think they are right!!! I take everyone seriously who even says anything regarding suicide! Regardless! This is just horrible!

I've been searching around in those forums and I'm amazed that there is so much hostility there. Furthermore, it's good that the SF staff are here moderating these forums so much better than the BB staff moderates their forums. I can count dozens of members there who definitely need to be banned, and certainly they would be banned if they posted here on SF in the same manner as they post at BB. Unfortunately, the person who killed themself didn't find SF first. Maybe a life could have been saved.

My condolences go out to that person's family and friends.

Possibly the worst part about all this is that soo many people were either insulting this person or encouraging him, i'm sure alot of them will just brush this off or totally blank this incident from their mind.

With soo many people insulting this person, in some ways it tells you abit about our society. People just don't care and cuz everyone else is arrogant, ignorant and selfish it then becomes cool to be like that.

Is disgusting how other people can egg someone on.... they should b prosecuted, i so wish i had been in that chatroom, i would have done something to stop it happening, i hope the people that egged him on live with the guilt for the rest of there days,

the note he left is heart breaking ( not sure if we are aloud to paste it here) but go and read it... from reading it, you can tell its not some kinda joke on his part,

people on here will be able to relate to how this young lad felt, i just wish he had told someone the pain he was suffering

I have not seen the forums but I really don't understand how or why something like this would even come up on a bodybuilding web site?

he was well known on the bodybuilding site, and from some of his posts, its obvious he was depressed, but because he has said befor in many posts he would take his own life, then later deleted them, so when he did say it this time, no one believed him.... which i still think is wrong, because that was a cry for help.. what really gets to me... is a member on the site. PM'd a mod... and said that he had taken a load of pills on cam.. and all she replied was.. he is a attention whore, you should see some of the post he has done befor then deleted got me so angry, along with her and the others watching him slowly die on cam... just a phone call hours earlier could have saved his life!!

Well, I'll go ahead and take a step out here to make some points on both sides. While I'm not condoning the spectator's (non)actions, I will attempt to analyze some of the reasons leading up to them.

Many people, as a rule, are shocked and yes, offended, by suicide. The last stats I saw is that 1 out of 17 people will consider suicide in their lifetime, and that fewer will attempt it. This means that about 4/5ths of the population do not understand it and probably do not want to, either, because it serves to remind them of their own mortality and the fragileness that is life. Further, we've unfortunately been indoctrinated with images from the media that suicide is a deeply personal, lonely act, something that's done in the middle of the night with sad songs in the background and lots of alcohol. As a result, you have people unwilling to believe that this person would follow through with it, much less on camera--especially not in front of a live audience.

Secondly, from what I've read, the person had been a troll (or had at least accused of being one) before, lending many to belief that he may have just been doing it for shock value.

Third, we have to take a look at the culture of the internet. For every one well-thought out blog that argues political discourse, you have five screaming idiots posting pornography just to offend people. Of all the mediums upon which to threaten suicide, the internet was probably the worst place a person looking for help could have done it, much less a bodybuilding website. I just wish he had called a suicide hotline instead, because the internet truly is a sadly apathetic place.

Next, we have to take a look at both mob mentality and avoidance mentality. Ordinary people will go to extraordinary measures for peer acceptance, which is what I believe led to the "egging." And then avoidance mentality is the belief that somebody else will take care of it; it's the Kitty Genovese situation all over again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect

Am I defending the viewer's actions? By all means, no. I know how it feels to reach a hand out for help just to get it slapped away. All am saying is that, in this strangely disturbing way, I can understand how it happened and why.

I agree with alot of the points you have made. I just think that this does ultimately show the general overview of what people are like towards others who seek help or take such action. Also I think that person trolling before this incident happened doesn't hold to much ground. A person who is mentally ill could troll, even a normal person could but to them it's a way to reach out or something else. We can ever trully know this persons intentions at that time.
As for the people who witnessed this, perhaps alot of them will just blank this from their mind and not learn from this.
This incident shows the ugly side of human kind.

Maybe this person "trolled" before because he was really reaching out for help, but it was regardless chalked up to causing drama for the sake of causing drama. This is why all threats of suicide, regardless of who is making them, must be taken seriously.

I agree, all threats of suicide should be taken seriously. But this won't be the case. On forums such as this, they will be taken seriously but otherwise, on the other types of forums, it won't be taken seriously.
