So, what is the best/worst way to end a relationship?

I can't imagine people picking anything other than in person

In person is the obvious choice for most but then some situations may need different ways. I left my husband of 20 years by moving out while he was at work, why...he was a verbally abusive alcoholic and had he known I was leaving , hell would have developed new shades of black. And i had to leave him a letter.

First relationship (girl) - over msn, mutual decision
Second relationship (guy) - in person
Third relationship (guy) - over text
Fourth relationship (guy) - still ongoing

Though I picked in person, I do believe that's the best way.. it just sometimes doesn't work out like that.

In person is the best way. It was horrible when I did it in person with my ex after I told her it was just not working out she wouldn't stop crying I must say it was the most awkward few hours of my life.

I'd generally say, in person. But, not all situations can be handled in that manner, as I was in an abusive relationship, there was no way I could do it as I would prefer. But..... just my 2 cents.
