I can relate... But I think you have to remember that it's a magnification of what an awful lot of people feel like at some time in their lives. I mean, no one is that one dimensional, even though it can seem like that sometimes.
Gee, I'll try to help. I think parents need to put themselves in their kids' shoes, with a fresh and open mind. if I were parents of someone like that I would make them sit down and write out some goals and steps that they can take in order to reach them. Then, POSITIVELY, encourage (not nag) them to put things into work so that they can get there.
And yeah, maybe that one dimension is a great over-simplification.
