wouldn't an unwanted pound puppy be just as nice?
sorry, that was off topic and was due to my do gooder
feelings about animals. sorry, yes an animal can be a
wonderful companion for a responsible owner. what
    more could anybody want?

Dogs are awesome and they can definately make you feel good. What i love about dogs is that theyll love you even with all ones own flaws. The way i look at my dog, is not that i own him, or hes there for my gratification, or my ego (for those who like "tough" looking dogs), but that he's my friend no mater what happens. But they are not a cure only people can help that. All that being said everyone should go adopt a dog. And get one based on your and the dogs temperment not on how the dog looks.

Excellent idea, you can also take the dog to an obedience club and meet heaps of people. I would suggest another breed though because other people may be scared of your dog. Best to get a puppy then you can train it up. But definately go to an obedience club and do puppy socialisation. I am a dog training instructor. People will stop and talk to you because you have a dog.

Cure? No. Help a lot? Yes.

Definitely worth it and you will get a lot of love but wont solve everything.

Pets are great, and they give you a reason to get out of bed in the morning. I know I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for my cat

    fuzzy cat

I would love a dog but recognise that I'm not in a good enough space, both physically (live in a small flat) or mentally (severely agoraphobic), so it might be good for me but not for the dog so it's a no-no. I think what's most important when thinking of what dog to get is the one that best fits your circumstances. And don't forget they're expensive... insurance, food etc

Yes they are great distractions from the negatives. My therapist suggested I get one, so eventually I did. Then it hit me what the hell have I done? After about a month I started coming around a little, after three months the little sucker had won my heart. Now he is my best friend. He can tell when I am feeling bad because he will jump up in bed with me and lie down next to me and stay there until I finally get up and take him out back and play fetch. Lucky we have a huge backyard all fenced in. That is something you have to think about for your dogs health mentally and physically do you have the room for him. They require maintenance vet bills, food, exercise, and so on. If you go for it then it is a step in the right direction. By the way I got a Jack Russel very active dogs and smart as a whip. They can learn up to 150 commands. Good Luck, ~joseph~

    ewwwww! dog spit. uncool!
I'de love a dog but too many of them that I see make licky love with thier parts and then come licky love your face afterwards
Still, they are meant to be very good company, and if that stops the feeling of loneliness then it should make life a lot easier.

Dogs are wonderful, but nothing can take the place of other humans.
