I had an interview yesterday. They said I was overqualified for the job (it's a software engineering position). I am such a freaking loser. I can't get a job. I see why my wife had an affair on me. If I was married to me, I would have an affair, too. I should be dragged out and shot, I'm such a useless drag on everyone and their resources. I'm even too cowardly/loserly to kill myself. Why doesn't God take me home?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

gwalchemi,

No offense, but if you are overqualified for that position you still have a much better chance of getting a job that many people do. I think the main reason you're not getting a job is because of your thought process, which you can change. Consider it.

A person who successfully gets a job in a relatively short time says to themselves when they are turned down (and they do get turned down) "this was not the job for me, time to move on to the next interviewt and maybe use whatever I learned here to do better on the next one". They don't say, "I didn't get a job because I am a freaking loser", although they could say that. If everyone who's ever been turned down for a job is a freaking loser due to that, then just about everyone with a current job is a freaking loser. Those who succeed expect to go on many interviews and possibly be turned down many times. Get their mindset and you will succeed in this task as well.

Do not allow yourself to be phased by the rejection and you will succeed, in fact the confidence you'll have with that attitude is one of the main ways to get a job, and other things. Reprogram your mind starting now.

The effort you're putting into writing, "I can't believe I'm not getting a job", could be spent writing yet another resume cover letter saying, "I look forward to meeting your for an interview". Or on sharpening your interview skills or resume.

Thanks, thinker.
I have been working really hard at finding something. I have (at last count) put out over 400 resumes with applications. I've had a few nibbles here and there, but that's about it.
I talked to the people there, yesterday. They haven't passed the resume around to everyone in that particular group, yet. I hope to hear back from them, soon.

Please forgive me for my ignorance, but how could a company not hire you because your overqualified? I just don't understand that.....

If it makes you feel any better, I would like to hire you. (Though, I'm not an employer at this time) I'm certain there are many people out there in desperate need of employees who would greatly appreciate your help. Finding them is the challenge, but just think how great it's going to feel to have purpose once you've found that new job. You're doing all that you can by sending out all of those resumes, and you should be proud of yourself for that effort - especially by doing so in spite of your personal problems and emotions.

Thanks, Syd. I wish you could hire me. I've had two interviews since Monday, the one I mentioned and another one. I'm trying to keep hope alive. I can't even get in touch with my wife while she's at work to tell her about this - I think she's out with the "other guy".
