Why are so called moderators in the chat room so unhelpful, as tonight they do not contribute to discusssions and their average age seems to be about 18. I don't want to talk about what essay i've got to hand in tomorrow funnily enough. Perhaps there should be seperate chat rooms for different ages as i can't relate to young people under 20, i understand their issues to an extent from memory, but don't want to get into a discussion about it. Plus some of the commments they post are just very juvenile and unhelpful.

the chat room's only really meant for socialising and having a bit of fun, you can make your own room in chat if you want to talk about other things as long as it follows the rules

The chat room is mainly for socialising, if no other discussions are going on people are going to talk about whatever is going on with them at the moment. No one is going to hang around in silence waiting for someone to start a serious conversation. As I told you, if you want to start a conversation just do it and people will join in if they want to. You don't need the entire room's attention before you start. Also, if you want a seperate room to discuss something specific then you can create one. But a lot of people find it a nice break to come into the chat room and have a laugh. That's mainly what it's for.

LIfes too short to read all of that, when i want to talk to someone in real time i don't want to discuss the weather and how my new pants fit.

well those are the site rules, either you read them and stick to them or you go about not knowing if youre breaking the rules and risk being placed under moderation where you wont even be able to enter the chat room

Why do i think that i'm just getting more rules as to how you want people to use things, don't discuss anything that could be possible dodgy usefull, etc. Hell if i mention a gun that could give someone an idea, don't be silly, do you think people are that stupid?

of course we care, but if someone in distress comes here talking about something against the rules it could cause more distress to other members which we definatly dont want

Being put under moderation is for those who cannot or will not moderate themselves. I can easily understand if you are in a lot of pain and misery, but you cannot inflict it on others. That's unhelpful to them and to you. Such rules exist in real life as well. That's why there are laws and courts and such - for people who went around just doing as they pleased with no regard for anyone else. Sorry if this is too inhibiting for you, but the forum's first concern is for the well-being of its members. We would not allow anyone to treat YOU in a disrespectful or hurtful manner, therefore you may not treat others that way.

This is probably me butting in and making a 'juvenile' response as you have put it. However I really hope that you realise that all the staff members here are just human. We're not perfect, nor do we pretend to be. We make mistakes... we just do the best job that we can, and we still come here for support too - after all that would probably have been the reason for us joining in the first place.

I would like to be able to join the chat room at some stage as I'm still banned. What are your guidelines for allowing people to re-join the forum, is there a certain amount of time you leave it, how does it work?

#19
You will be taken off moderation when you've proven you can follow the forum rules. Please believe that you will be judged fairly in this. You can still post as much as you like, but your posts will have to be checked by one of the staff before they are visible. Please do not register again as these accounts will be closed.

Just a codicil here Death, one of the things you might not realise is that members often pm us in chat when someone is upsetting them.
The other night I received 3 pms from peeps in chat who wanted a situation and conversation to stop, it may have looked like I had abritrarily stopped the conversation but this was not the case. If other members are upset then we have to step in.
