I don't really understand the choice to turn a thread that opened with how my mental health got better from being disillusioned with spiritual beliefs into one filled with religious/new age quotes and trying to convert me back into the beliefs that were screwing me up.
Spirit guides are spirit guides, an idea that came from mediums. Throughout however many years (somewhere around 200?) of parapsychological experiments, mediums have not been able to demonstrate under fair, properly controlled conditions that they can do what they say they can do. Consequently, I think I can safely dismiss information from them without being close-minded.
That's a good attitude, I share it!
However, this talk of spirit guides is neither new nor information. It's unsubstantiated claims of the supernatural.
So, not only are we punished or rewarded for what thoughts our current brain generates for our consciousness, we are punished or rewarded for the thoughts generated by a different brain at a different time?
You must see the flaw in that! Our inner guidance is wrong all the time, especially for many of us on this site whose brains have often straight up malfunctioned, giving us all sorts of wrong intuitions. That's why we need to check our inner guidance against the real world and scientific method to see if it has any basis in reality.
I'm not dismissing the possibility of there being life after death etc, in fact I'd very much like that given that I love my parents who're starting to maybe just maybe age a tiny bit and I lost a friend last year. We'll see in 2020 when the AWARE II study concludes if there are positive results on the tablet experiment. Until then I'll assume our existence is finite, spirits/God can't hear my thoughts, and time is of the essense until proven otherwise
