Do Not Get Old

I am old and I truly regret it. The body and the mind are failing. I hate starting a new day as I don't know what will hurt next, or if what already hurts will hurt more. I just know that it will only get worse. Finances are a shambles and will only get worse. I try and find something positive to look forward to, but the only thing I look forward to is eventually leaving this world.
And the state of the world is of no help either. Every where I look there is poverty, greed, war, drug abuse, murder, homelessness and misery. The political situation is horrendous. It just seems like leaders are intent on destroying both themselves and each other.
I miss the simpler times. Sure there were problems then, but not like now.
Forgive my rant, but things are just not starting well today.

I'm old too and I worry a lot about getting older. My mum died recently at 103; she had dementia, but it gave her a buddha-like serenity. It was nice to be around her because she radiated peace. She had no worries and no pain. I will miss holding her.

That is a hard way to go, at least until you are no longer aware of what is happening to you. I am glad you were able to be there for her.

I agree. I miss earlier and simpler times even though they had their problems. It gets more like the terms described as disposable culture or throw away society. Both phrases can and are used for material things and people.

I am 87 and actually like it. I know it is hard for some. Try eating blueberries and walnuts. They have what a old person needs.
By golly, you beat me as far as being 87. Because I'm 72 now, although I'll be 73 this July.
Thankfully, the same as you, I am reasonably contented. Sure, I still have some struggles. But my Buddhism keeps my mind serene. It enables me to go with the flow so that I can tolerate setbacks.
What's a lifesaver for me is the local Senior center. The social outlet there is a lifesaver. Although sometimes it's hard to find partners for my favorite board games. Currently at the Center, there are two elderly ladies with whom I meet once a week for board games. We keep in touch with each other by phone. Whenever either one cannot make it, they always politely call me to let me know. Specifically text because it's a group-text by which all three of us get the message.
This is a huge blessing, thanks to the Catholic charity that runs the Senior center.

Getting old is a time of loss. Friends and family start to die, you lose your own heath and ability to do things, money becomes an issue.
I can't see as well, hear as well, have less strength and endurance, cannot care for my yard and home as well as I did before, don't have the energy to travel, help at church, cook, or do other things. My dreams and hopes for life are dying. My health and finances continually get worse. Just the whole crappy mess called life gets worse. And the only relief I see comes with death.

Are you still going for church?
