I'm at a point where I know that events at a very young age, and how I was raised in general, have affected me greatly and are the direct cause of a plethora of problems i have, such as social anxiety. My question for you all is this, what can a psychiatrist do? Will talking with someone about these things unlock something in my head and cure me? I'm curious. Thank you.

Psychiatrists do not "fix" people they are more like therapists. They are really more like shills for experimental medicine (i.e. you get to be tbe guinea pig), if you go the way of believing in mysticism of a "pills solution", pills may help in small doses but they really can't change you opinions of whether or not to take action and change your life.

I had social anxiety really badly too and the only way I learned to deal with it was to get inspired to change my life... I read "The game" by neil strauss and hung around places like sosuave.net, etc.
