One of my daughter's colleagues has tested positive for Covid, My daughter has had extended close contact with her over the last week. So she is now supposed to self isolate for 10 days but her boss is putting pressure on her to go in. Obviously the animals still need to be cared for but there are several members of staff who are still on furlough. Surely they should be brought back while the ones who should be self isolating stay at home? Evidently that will cause too much paperwork and organisation.

She's now terrified she's going to lose her job. She's only been there a couple of months and they've mucked her around hideously.

This is terrible and I’m so sorry your daughter has been put in this position. She should send an email and ask her employers to put in writing that they want her to attend work even after they know she has been in close contact a positive covid case, and tell them that she is worried as the law states that she shouldn’t and that she should self isolate. She could say that if she has it in writing it will help ease her concerns if she gets stopped by the police. She is effectively breaking the law by not isolating and I’m so angry that her employers are asking her to do this. They won’t put it in writing of course, no manager would. Then she could go off sick for 10 days until her isolation is done and she can use any excuse for that sickness. Stress and the associated health impacts that brings would be the truth. Everything should be done in writing so you have proof should you need it. And i would recommend at a point where it’s right for your daughter that she looks for another job (I know that’s not easy in today’s world) as this company clearly don’t value their people!

Looks like your daughter's place of work is itching to pick up a fine between £1000 - £10,000 pounds for breaking Covid established laws.

You can get more support, or advice from Citizen's Advice
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/h...-have-to-self-isolate-because-of-coronavirus/

Or if you prefer a spot of light reading
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/if-you-need-to-self-isolate-or-cannot-attend-work-due-to-coronavirus

All this comes after news broke earlier on about DVLA Swansea being in breach of self-isolation laws with around 500 of it's staff. What a wonderful example of a government agency setting such a fine example. And to think, this is without Dominic Cummings being around to place his arseprints all over this.

Thanks Ash. I guess the tricky bit looking at the above is that it says you only need to self isolate if you're contacted by the NHS test and trace. But Test and Trace haven't contacted her colleague yet to ask about people she's been in contact with - of course not, why would we expect a government system to actually work? They only know she's tested positive because she's sent a copy of her test results to them herself. So her boss is saying there's no need for anyone to self isolate. There are two others who worked closely with her too - one is insisting on self isolating and one is still going to work. So at least Izzy isn't the only one digging her heels in.

She got the job!
I suppose this sorts her problem out. As they've still not given her a contract she's assuming she doesn't have to give them notice. So it doesn't really matter if they're pissed off with her as she won't have to go back :)

That's great to hear that she's landed the job. As she hasn't been given a written contract, I suppose she hasn't been made aware of a statutory notice period which she is expected to give. In that case, if memory serves me right, then "the rule of law" kicks in which states that one weeks notice must be given. However, as she is isolating, and the current place of work appears to be run by a bunch of turd minstrels, I'd say flick them the bird and let them assume the isolatory period to double up as the notice period.

Thanks. Not sure I've ever seen her so happy. I just wish she didn't have to move to the other end of the country for it. But I'm really happy for her, it's a great opportunity :) x

You will miss her for sure but now you have a new place to visit :) x I’m so glad she doesn’t need to go back to the other place. We should always work for a company who values its people and she will find such a difference working for a place that does x

I understand that the Track & Trace didn't work anyway -- that even when you tell them who you've had contact with, they don't contact those people

They completely stopped contact tracing here. Statement was there wasn't enough staff to support it, so you are responsible to notify the people you were in contact with if you test positive.

As you can see from the above example from @Sunspots, this works out spectacularly! Especially when you employer requires documentation to give you the "covid" time off.

Track and trace is a load of mank over here. You want something that'll tell you when someone deadly has entered the area, then download Uber app.

Just wanted to say a massive congratulations to Izzy! She throughly deserves it! You've raised an amazing daughter, Lucy *stars

P.S. The old employer can get stuffed! Like someone else already said, her notice can be her self isolation period. :D

Thanks. She handed in her notice and doesn't need to go back in. And much to her glee they've asked her to reconsider and stay *hysterical

Seriously!?! They have got to be joking.

When I turned in my notice at my last me job my boss said, I wish I could get you to stay but I realize at this point there is no way in hell you would consider staying. She understood my reasons. She said later they gave her an offer to show me, but she told them not to bother lol.

She must have felt soooo good telling them no! Go girl! And a valuable life lesson for her not to ever put up with being treated that way, there are always other options out there. I hope she enjoys her new job and feels valued 🥰🥰
