    The house is dark
    The people resting
One little soul is kept awake
And soon her mind will break

She hears knocks on the ceiling
She hears drips in the sink
She hears scratches in the wall
She hears whispers in the deep

She can feel their eyes upon her
    She can feel their hunger
She can feel their breaths upon her throat
She can feel their hands holding her down

    She tries to scream
    She tries to run
    The Darkness holds her down
    And it's not much fun

She now feels their drool on her skin
    She can see their eyes
Little red dots in the air
    She's never been so scared

Her flesh gives in from their teeth
    Her blood flows out
Her eyes bulge in their sockets
And she finally makes a sound

    Mommy and daddy come a-runnin'
    Their little girl is a-cryin'
"What is it, honey, what's wrong?"
"You just had a bad dream, that's all."

And so they leave her alone
    As the door is closing
    She sees the eyes again
Deep and crimson, matching her sheets

    She faints from the terror
    She escapes from the pain
She wakes up the next day
Having soiled her bed and her self

    She's scolded by her parents
But they can't stay mad at her
Clean her up, and off she goes
    Until the night draws near

She has stayed in her bed for hours now
    And still nothing happens
She thinks it was all a dream
    Untill she hears the knocking.

(No, not based on personal experience. Just fiction, thank the gods.)

Actually, a debilitating mental illness. She won't be able to have a life, will be on drugs 24/7, in and out of mental institutions, will hardly be able to sleep, and will panic at the sight of a shadow. But those things will be in parts 2 and 3. :)

Very phantasmagoric. Reminds me of Polanski's Repulsion.
