Fluoxetine/Prozac experiences

I've been taking fluoxetine for 7 years now and I'm starting to have second thoughts about it. It was the first thing they put me on so I just never bothered to change. I thought it helped although I had no support before hand so it could have been that as well. What i have recently thought about though is what if I'm not bipolar and it's the fluoxetine causing my symptoms? A side effect of it is mania and irritability and now that I think about it I never showed bipolar symptoms before I started taking it. It would make my life a lot easier if I wasn't bipolar and I could just change up my medication and be fine because I have to take invega to control my mania and it comes with a whole bunch of side effects. Plus I keep forgetting to take the fluoxetine and drinking and with that medication it could be making me feel a lot worse. I can't get into a dr to discuss my medication until the 11th and was wanting to know other people's opinions and experiences?

Taking an anti depressant when one is bipolar can exacerbate symptoms so taking the Prozac might've just made them more prominent.
You could ask about dropping your meds for a time but you should note that many medications don't work as well the second time around. Prozac happens to be well prescribed for a reason (it's reliable!) I think you should talk with your Dr before making a decision - it's in barely a week now.
