Found out why my legs swell

After the last go round at ER my GP referred me to a vascular specialist.

After ultrasound tests on my legs they told me my veins aren't working properly and blood can't return back up the system.

The fix for this is called rf ablation, where they catheterize the vein, kill it and the blood reroutes to healthy veins. They said it is a relatively easy process, takes about 10 minutes. But it will require 4 visits.

The other problem is the "weeping" leg. This is called lympharhea (spelling?) anyway, its a sick lymph node that needs repaired before it creates a dangerous ulcer. This is a laser fix.

The rf ablation the doc was sure insurance would pay for but maybe not the laser procedure.

The problem is its a 1.5 hour round trip each time and I have an appt. 5 Tuesdays in a row.

Oh geez 5 consecutive weeks. And what'd worry me is do you have to drive yourself to and from the procedures?

But that these problems are treatable is such a relief @Angie. becausethose symptoms are, I admit, frightening. I'm so glad you got a doctor to diagnose what is what right away.

Did the doctor say if there are things you can do to help prevent any of this in future?

sending a hug, if you want.

They said I can drive myself to and from with no problem.

But I don't know if I can do 5 consecutive weeks. Am thinking of doing 2 a month instead of all at one whack.

Problem is I have other doctor appointments in the same city, which makes it more trips.

Prevention is a good question, I didnt think to ask, will do next time.

Thank you

Glad you have a solution. Sounds like rather a nuisance though. Is this maybe diabetes related? And what do you do if insurance won't pay for lymph node issue?

Doctors and meds are a huge hassle. The place my doctor referred me to for Ativan is a telemedicine place. Can't even understand the staff when they call. Accent is extreme. I told them I was not comfortable with telemedicine and to please cancel my request. It just isn't worth it.

God, I hate our medical system.
