I peer out the tower's window An immense desert is all I see From the bottom of my eye Stretching to the horizon Bleak and grey, cold and dead Nothing lives there. There are no mountains There are no hills Not a single animal is visible Nor a tree, nor a flower Not even bones This is my kingdom This is my world. My tower is the only feature In this duneless desert A small, round column sticking up I conjured it up from the nothingness It keeps me warm in the night And, would there be day, It'd keep me cool, I'm sure. No visitors come to my door. I'm not even sure anyone else exists. I once believed, however That would I go digging I'd find radiant treasure Glittering gems, sparkling emeralds Deep, bright heliodors Transparent quartz clusters And maybe even some gold. I dug, I'm sure I did But I found nothing but dull dirt And grey sand.
