Has anyone had success with psychotherapy?

Probably no one here, though there's a good body of research showing it to be about as effective as medication, though it takes longer to have an effect. If you can access it, you should.

Yes, my first therapist was useless but my second one was brilliant.
So if you feel its going nowhere (not, I dont like this therapist, or this therapist is getting too close etc.) then think about a change.
My first therapist actually had the decency to say he'd been worse than useless

my very first therapist was great...she was thru the university and i wasn't allowed to see her after awhile...

then i went thru four or 5 (i lost count) therapists who didn't work for me...

now, i found a good one again...

and really, i'm still very suicidal and very depressed, but she's helping simply by letting me talk to her...and also, she helps cuz i feel less alone...

i have a four session rule with therapists...you're not gonna like them at first...it's gonna be weird and awkward...but by the fourth session, you should be able to tell if they are gonna work for you or not...so i always stick around for four sessions before changing therapists...
