Hello - new to board - My mom committed suicide when I was 10....

Hello,

I am not certain that I feel comfortable posting yet, so I just wanted to say hello first.

Are there other adults here whose mother (or father) committed suicide when they were a child? I was 10 when my mother did and it is now 30 years later and I am just starting to attempt to work through all my feelings in a non-angry manner.

I am feeling kind of weird for still being so effected by it......

Hey there....glad to meet you....Im still sorta new myself here.
I lost my best friend a year ago to suicide....I havent lost a parent so I cant relate to that but I do know the pain of a loved one leaving in such a way.

I dont think its weird that you are still affected by it, its something that will be with you forever, but in different ways, you know? I personally believe dealing with suicide, you have ups and downs and questions that go unanswered and its a continuous battle of emotions. Its hard and its something that anyone not going through can not understand its full impact.

Im glad you are here though and deciding to work through this. I hope you can find some sort of comfort.

Hello & welcome to SF, what a tragedy for you to experience at just 10 years old, the feelings though they will change somewhat over the years will always be with you.
It is good that you are now beginning to attempt to work through all your feelings in a non-angry manner.
I hope that you will find the understanding and support you need at this time here at SF.

It is perfectly understandable that you are still effected by this, there is no need to feel "weird" talking about it here.

...my mother killed herself recently, (within the last 6 months), its still pretty hard coping with it, but thats the thing, i imagine when i'm 30 it will still be pretty hard...

...when we met with the priest for the funeral he said that its something your going to take with you, but he did say that time does heal wounds, and it would get easier...

...if that sounded a bit morbid i'm sorry, but thats my feelings on the subject...

...plus i'm not suprised your only now starting to resolve those feelings, when your 10, i doubt you fully understood what was happening...
