I bought my parents a 10MP Samsung for Christmas this year. The picture isn't as good as I was expecting. It's about on par with a disposable. Maybe I need to play around with the settings a little more.

15.1MP - a Canon EOS 500D. I should have waited for the 550D though, which is 18MP. Anyways, I also bought a 70-300mm Sigma lens for it. Photography is one of my hobbies, but lately I've been so tired.. to really exercise it.
