We are all in crisis or have been in crisis, many of us suffer some mental health issues, others suffer abuse, eating disorders, you name it, someone here, at some point has probably experienced it.

I am a suicidal/anxious depressive. Thats makes me a gloomy individual, my outlook is showers with prolonged spells of heavy rain/hail/sleet. I look around me at SF and as expected I find plenty of people in similar mood.

Now this is where I might start upsetting someone, I hope not, but one never knows.

I am finding that due to all the doom and gloom in my life right now, theres not a great deal of light getting in. This is darkening my mood even further some days. So, to help aleviate some of the darkness/gloom, I have been trying to inject a little humour into some of my posts. I am UK based, so you must forgive me that when you are deciding what is humourous and what is not.

I just think, rightly or wrongly, with a little humour about, if just one member grins or smiles because of it, it might just mean they have a better day than they would have had without that humour.

Does anyone take exception to that approach? I know and understand we have a lot of very serious issues being discussed here and I in no way wish to detract from that. Can humour help in a forum like this?

I think it's a great idea. One of the best ideas I've come across which has helped me a ton is 'don't take things seriously'. So simple, but if you really get with that then what is there to be anxious about?

Also, it's good to express yourself freely and if you come with good intentions then everything will be fine.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. If I wasn't able to find something to laugh or smile about every day, I would have been gone a long time ago...

I completely agree. I think we should absolutely find ways to be humorous about things. Sometimes we have to laugh about things before we really realize the situation. It can make us see that something we thought was horrible is really not that bad, and we don't need to beat ourselves up about it.

Dear Kid:

I studied psychology in college. There was one psychologist, Abraham Maslow who said that a sense of humor was necessary to a healthy life. I need more humor. I am gloomy/ Sometimes when I laff in response to something a friend said, I am faking it. When I am relaxed I do find things funny and respond in a healthy way.

Definitely, the more laughter u have in your life, the better u will feel.
