I feel like I'm starting to 'fit in' with the Red Cross, which is great. I struggle to fit in anywhere and I love the fact that I'm getting on well with pretty much everyone. It's always hard for me to socialise, I always think people are going to reject me or judge etc but if anyone is feeling the same way I highly recommend getting involved in a charity organisation or a group somewhere around where you live. You share the same interests and you learn that not everyone will turn you away. Your confidence improves and it's a great way to expand your social skills. I'm not there yet, my social skills are FAR from perfect but I think in order to learn social skills you actually need to experience socialising. It can be a huge leap getting involved in groups and charities and I admit, at first things will most likely be difficult for you but in time when you get to know the people and they get to know you, things can improve. Joining the Red Cross has been one of the highlights of my life and I don't regret it one bit. I look forward to going to events, to meet the people, to have a laugh and let my hair down, I've also been invited to go to Geneva, Switzerland (where The International Committee of the Red Cross is based) next year with them if the trip goes ahead and I'll be going away for two days with them in March. It's great.
