Perhaps if there never was the internet, I think I would be a happy person. I would probably have friends, a girlfriend, a life. But no, I stay at home all my free time on this hell box. It's safe here, a false sense of security which makes me worse every day. Im losing touch with reality, im losing the will to live. I cant survive without it but i know i would be so much better without it.

I used to be pretty popular when i was a kid, up to the age of about 14 i think. I had friends, and happiness, no thoughts of suicide. How things have changed, I don't even recognise myself now. I died when I changed, and hate whats left, I hate so much. I have no idea what went wrong and wish i could change it but you don't get any second chances, if olny i knew that back then. Nothing is a given.

Im full of shame, secrets, lies, guilt.I want to change, but im past that. All I can do now is wait. Wait for the end to come and take me away like garbage, not giving a thought to what i used to be

The internet is not to blame. If it didn't exist you would stay home and watch T.V. If television didn't exist you would stay home and listen to the radio. No radio? You would stay home and read. Your problem lies within. Your problem is not the internet, if you believe it is then get rid of it. Cancel your service and sell your computer.

yes i probably would because i am like that now. If i never had the internet i wouldn't have changed, it fascinated me and i got addicted.

I would just sit and watch t.v. The internet has done it's damage and maybe isnt what is wrong with me- But it definately amplified it to what it is today

You didn't get what I was saying. The internet didn't make you that way. You would have become that way whether or not the internet existed. It came from yourself. You would have turned to whatever there was. If not the internet, something else. The point is, it's you. And only you can change it. You're just playing the blame game.

I agree, but i also think that the internet can help, you're annonymous here and it helps me to know that there are others out there that understand and i dont have to repeatedly bore the pants off my friends or leave them feeling awkward because they dont know what to say or how to help me with my brother and his suicidal feelings because with the best will in the world its that same old saying"you dont really know till you've been there" and we have to remember that "change comes from within" we have to make it happen and try to support others to do the same so that life is not just bearable but that it comes good again,i have to believe that or hope is lost and without hope.....

i hate internet too, but also love it. internet is helping me and killing me at the same time, saving me from myself, but destroying me. and i hate it and love it, but its not the one that is doing all this. other circumstances are doing it, internet is just somewhere in between

I do admit that the net have turned me into a hermit. I blame mmos. But the net is too important to deny it now. Through its cold facade, there's people behing this wall

i play mmos too, they are very addictive. I even get up at stupid hours to join wars when I should be in bed. the only good thing is there are some good people online, all my 'friends' are there and it's an easy place to feel accepted. But it just doesn't feel real

What Pad introduced with this thread is exactly why I got rid of the internet at my home. Subsequently my internet use is limited to just the computer at the public library, and is where I am at this very moment as I write this post. As Pad himself said, socializing on-line does not feel real. You can have zillions of friends on-line, but you will still feel empty. Why? Because humans were met for in-person contact. Internet is meant as a step to get in-person friends.

I was 24, when the internet became popular. I was walking in a jungle on the Guatemalan side of Mexico passing huts. And to my shock a satelite TV.

I never met anyone who felt the way you do about the internet. Maybe, you should start reading instead. It's a better way of gathering info, I think. I can read a whole book in a few days about anything.

I do tend to agree with this. I do often find myself wishing that the internet never existed. I still have a life outside of the internet, but my mother is so obsessed with Facebook, Twitter and some jewellery site she frequents that we barely communicate anymore. Internet has ruined our relationship. And i feel that with the introduction of the internet everyone became so distant. My friends would rather IM than phone or hang out, or they wanna stay home in case something happens on FB or whatever.
But i also feel that the internet provides us with a lot of interesting opportunities; Dating site, Self help sites, Support Forums and Job sites for example to make our life more varied and interesting. It's really up to the individual person to say "I'm taking a break from the internet and going out with my real friends" Noone else can do it for you

Because i'm an isolationist the internet is a big part of my life..I've only had my computer two years before that I spent fourteen years just lying in bed watching the ceiling fan go round and round.. All the while wishing I was dead.. I had no outside contact with anyone..I have made some pretty good friends here..Some I have carried on with outside of the forum..But still being on line is a very big part of my life..

I also wish the internet never existed. Spending so much time and energy on the internet has deepened my depression. I used to spend hours surfing, chatting, and posting on messageboards, and at the end of the day I felt empty.

It has been difficult but I have cut down somewhat on the amount of time I actually spend on it and it has helped a little bit. Eventually I'm gonna close all my online accounts and start receiving mail and telephone calls again instead of emails.

One benefit the internet does have is being able to find this messageboard with such supportive people.
