Internet censorship coming?

Well I was reading news article, title was "myspace blocks antiwar websites" blocking links and pages that didn't break the rules but were blocked and deleted because of the request of the owner of the site. It also talked about how their is a new mainstream internet program like internet explorer 2 being developed that will allow certain people within the government and such to censor any blogs and videos they want.

Is internet censorship coming? I really hope not. I mean the mainstream media is already controlled mostly. So what if the internet is next. What will you do when some one tries to take away your freedom of speech? Seems unreal but its possible.

In a word, yes. It's been building and coming for a long time. The more mainstream the internet has gotten, the louder the cries for censorship have gotten. Not so long ago, most of the people online were very intelligent. Now, almost everyone is online and not all of them understand the full implications of censorship. How it will affect them.

The internet has been the worst thing that could possibly happen for those who were accustomed to having dominion over what people thought, everything people saw and heard and so forth. They can no longer suppress the slightest thought or idea. And don't think they're going to take it laying down.

The internet kind of took those people by surprise in how fast it's grown and how it's changed where people get their information from and the sheer volume of information that's available. If you look at the predictions that scholars made in the past about what things would be like in the future, it's pretty clear they never saw the internet coming.

But you can bet they'll find a way to control it.

Ya its been coming for ages. There trying to move in on porn and "supposed" terrorism affiliated sites here in Aus...Its straight up fear mongering bullshit, typical politics these days unfortunately. There more interested in creating fear than hope. If i can bypass the censors, I will.

Some people on this site complain about how some websites shouldn't be allowed. All they are doing really is helping to start internet cencorship. Even though I personally dislike some websites I never think we should censor them or allow government to control the internet.

could you be more specific? your vagueness seems like an attempt to censor yourself

It's certainly coming. Not in all countries, though, such as Sweden. Probably none of the nordic countries, actually... if it becomes global, I'm fairly sure the nordic countries will oppose it. If it comes here, anyway, however, it's good to know I won't be part of it... I will live a short life. I have to die young... I just cannot become old. Unless aging can be controlled and even reversed, soon, I'll have to die.

I agree that most should be allowed to be expressed, as well, with some exceptions, of course; if it directly hurts someone, like in the case of child porn and rape porn, etc., it must be stopped. Demented opinions, otherwise, must be allowed, however, because if you express a line you cannot cross, that line will just be moved, all the time, until it, finally, is a pure dictatorship. This is much why I am so angered with the censorship of this forum; they are helping this scenario to become realised.

What are you talking about? I barely ever drink. I'm not addicted to porn, either; in fact, I find normal porn very immoral. However, I am quite interested in ecchi, but how that is "coming along" is none of your business, since it isn't even a problem, and never will be.

I haven't been posting much, recently, since I've been very tired and lacking in energy.

I read your post as a sarcastic remark, due to my obsession with sex and comments on how wonderful ecchi can be, as well as my fairly recent comments on getting drunk. Obviously, it may just be that I was confused with someone else, and, as such, I apologise for my unnecessary hostility.

Well, this forum is privately owned. It's like a restaurant or any other private property. You can't go onto someone's private property and behave any way you wish. They have a right to ask you to leave if you don't behave according to their code of conduct on their property.

They could tell you not to discuss apple pie here and would be within their rights.

Meh.

Let them try to censor it. Anybody can post whatever they want on the net. If it gets taken down, it can be reposted in a matter of seconds...
