I would say yes :spaz:
it's making me horny.
    good point.....10% cool and interesting stuff + 90% porn = Internet
Are you trying to remove the internet? and the net doesn't make you stupid, eating at McDonald's does. jk i'm lovin' it
errrr no ilove the internet...i just think see a lot od stupidity in the world and it seems to be getting move of it...maybe the internet is contributing to it ...i should be a retard if eating at mcdonalds make u more stupid cause of the many times i've eaten there...
For a while I thought that the internet may be making people stupid, then I realised it was merely broadcasting the stupidity that was already there. With things like youtube comments, facebook and other sites, the potential for people to broadcast their thoughts has never been easier. We all have dumb thoughts, but we used to keep that shit to ourselves. Not anymore. It can provide some excellent comedy though.
Also, we assume people are stupid for typing stupidly e.g too many exclamation points, rearranged letters in words (which I hope is just a fad) etc, which brings down their image and we naturally assume they are stupid for saying a stupid thing or writing in a stupid way. It doesn't mean we are getting dumber, it just means that most are dumbing down the way they communicate online. Sure, there are stupid people, but they are usually the minority. Lets not forget that most people in developed nations are on the internet these days, including those that did poorly in school and those that are young and unwise.
To repeat, it's not that people are getting stupider, it's that stupidity is being broadcasted more than ever before, which we are focusing on.
Plus, the error in the title of this thread = irony at it's finest.
errr thats just me ... :hiding: ...but you make many good points..there so much stupidity out there and i gues it kinda surprises me...
It surprises me too, then I remember that a stupid person generally won't think of the repercussions of making a stupid comment or doing a stupid action, so they express their thoughts (some of them stupid) more openly. I've been on the net for 10 years or so, and I can still be left dumbfounded by someone's comments or actions.
A prime example of incredible stupidity would be www.yahooanswerfail.com
The internet is the world’s toilet bowl... and it’s clogged.
i love mcdonalds, so guess i'm stupid
I believe it is making some smarter. there is so much available on the internet... just a shame a lot of people use the internet for stupid things
I was stupid long before the internet came along, so that doesn't help much
It has opened my mind to a lot of things, but in a sense it has decreased my intelligence because a lot of the stuff I do on the internet is pointless/comedy/youtube where I could have been doing something more productive like studying or something. It also hasnt helped my spelling because of spellcheck heh
I use the internet for my studies and whenever I have a questions I can get it answered by the internet. Of course I always double check the information, I don't just gulp the first one I see...so I think stupidity is not caused by the internet, stupidity is already there, along with laziness and other traits...
I think it depends on the content you're looking at that may make you "stupid". If you're looking at stupid things, you may become stupid. If you're looking at useful information, you may become smarter. So it depends on content.
I would say that the internet helps us gain knowledge.
i personally believe culturally stupidity is promoted to some extent.
As for the effect of the internet, i believe its actually making us impatient. We expect everything to be laid out for us within seconds. people get frustrated if a page takes several seconds to load.
I have to admit this has also happened to me, i am no way near as patient as i use to be.
This is like asking if the spoon is making us fat.
What you do with the Internet decides what you get or don't get out of it. It is a tool and a tool can be used correctly, or it can be used wrong. There's a lot of garbage online, and a lot of value. Sometimes a balance of fun and serious beneficial learning can be ultimate. If you spend your time on useless sites, then yes it may make someone stupid. What we do with the tools we have is how real value is measured. We can't let a tool overcome and master us - we are still our own boss.
Mama says stupid is as stupid does.
