Is this world going down?

I feel more and more, that the global situation is heating up. So rapidly, that I start to be afraid. I mean, not for myself - but for those who depend on me. I simply do not have enough money to relocate them again. There is a standing plan, of how to get them to Europe (France and Spain). But all this is planned for summer. Now I watch the news and there are so many things that frighten me: Israel-Hamas - lastet news of Jordan... , North Korea and now the pending action of the south, Houti in Yemen and global transport (Panama canal is dry now).

Only this makes clear, that prices will go up considerably and that shortages will come. But what if it gets out of hand? A real exploding for east or near east? Can you imagine the impact on global transport and flights, immigration.... I will not even talk about the other issues we have - global warming, over-fishing, floods, droughts, temperature records, earthquakes, overpopulation etc. etc.

I mean, I live in a small "pueblo" - so nobody here is really concerned. The only thing I realize is that food is definitely more expensive, so is electricity and many shops have simply closed. People start to beg now - here nearly every day. I am very, very worried. All news start to talk more and more about the possibility of a third world war. Are we not at the beginning? It seems that planning for summer is madness - it will never happen if the world continues like now. This is my great fear.

This has an impact on my mental health. Sometimes I just want to shut my head off. And sometimes the small voice inside me tells me - drink something and forget... It is anyway too late. This is not good.

If you have NETFLIX watch the movie: The world after us / le monde apres nous... This is quite realistic (if not too positive).

Does this bother or influence you too?

i often worry about the world as it is now. is it possible for ww3 yes it's possible but unlikely. my wife and i live on a fixed income of social security for each of us and i have a small pension. 5 years ago i could live comfortably with what i make now, not well off but comfortable. food rent electricity are all going up.

there will come a tipping point someday, probbly soon where the poor to the middle class will get fed up. that is when everyone organizes and starts a peaceful revolution. they will demand that officials redistribute wealth or be voted out of office. as for war i am hopeful that countries will start to behave and not act like 2 year olds

there is hope though. we have already started to face some of the issues. back when i was young they threw pollution from factories in the river, in the air as well. i remember our local river was too poluted to swim in, today it's clear. when i was in my 20s most cars got 10mpg to 12 mpg and threw out a lot of pollution. my 64 Dodge is one of those cars. i usually drive it less than 2500 milesa year for that reason. i think they should put a limit on all antique and classic cars of 5k a year. now most cars and trucks get from 20mpg to 50mpg and thow out a lot less pollutants, and electric cars throw out no pollution past manufacururing.

does this world suck? yes it does but it is getting better. we can all make a difference. you can bring a beggar or homeless person a meal, you can donte time or money to an organization, and if you want to help the world globally you can start an online petition. we are all members of the world so we're all responsible to change it a little

Hi Mike, you are my generation. I can still live comfortably, but have no car. I use a small scooter - that's all. I do what I can - love your next like yourself - but my wish would be: peace, understanding, people not being so materialistic. We had good and bad times - let's hope. This is maybe the best thing. Although in this case of war - I definitely see a black future. We'll see in some months.

I am quite worried about this to be honest. I don't really pay attention to politics because it's stressing me out, but seeing prices increasing, especially for basic necessities. And I heard all over the news that young people cannot afford a house without making 6 figures... it's frightening. I have this question in my head like, what's next? But I think I would be too afraid to know the answer.

I accepted the decline and inevitable fall of Homo sapiens a long time ago, with much equanimity.

I try to lead as good a life as I can, in terms of contributing to society and helping others, being a good steward of the environment, etc. Beyond that, it's out of my hands (it's out of our species' collective hands, really). So no point in worrying about it...

My view is that everything is getting better and worse at the same time. And I believe it's always been that way. You just have to choose which to focus on. There's a scene in Forrest Gump that always reminds me that chaos and order is happening at the same time.

i agree*agreed with what you said. the way i look at it there are two ways this world can develop.

1. it gets destroyed by war, aliens, comet or parking all of the cars in the world including the ones in the junk yard in one spot and knocks the world out of orbit lol

2. we eventually get a perfect government that combines all of the nations in the world into one democratic nation. no more greed or need for money. not capitalism, socialism, or communism, mabe a combination of all 3.

we work for the greater good of man. we eventually trim the world population to 100,000,000 at the most hopefully less. with the exception of farmland everyone lives in a city of skyscrapers, 1 million per city. no pesticides and limited machinery on the farms. maybe 100 acres per family with their own+ farm house and barn.take all of that extra land and return it back to nature with a few cabins here and there for vacations. i believe in gene roddenbarrys vision of the future, i will never see it but I'm already seeing a little hope

I am the eternal pessimist all the while typically chuckling. I see it as going down and don't see any fix. The movie quotes I most agree with are from Terminator 2:

John Connor: We aren't going to make it, are we, people aren't?

Arnold as the reprogrammed terminator protecting John: It is your nature to destroy yourselves.

I don't see that ever changing.

It's funny you mention that, because in the exact same movie they say "There's no fate but what we make". Sarah Connor even carves it onto a table. I always saw that as the thesis statement of the movie. That we create the world as we go along. It's kind of like there's two separate messages in the movie. And maybe the audience gets to pick one.

Good counterpoint. Sarah knows what the future will be so her making fate was to go and kill Dyson but gets stopped by her son. So much of arts in TV, books, etc hit that. With AI rising I knew it wouldn't be long before Skynet, the WOPR from War Games and many other stories from sci fi going back generations and even Star Trek the episode I, Mudd where the androids decide that humans need to be taken care of would start springing up online. The discussions can be very interesting.

Thanks for all your views on that. Its true - we try a lot of things to repair - but its useless. The quote of "Terminator II" made me laugh. I guess the reason to be depressed about this is useless - but I cannot change it. We are all sheep or spectators in this sense. So lets see to the end.... even if it will take some time...

I cried the first time I saw that Carlin interview(available on the 'Bad For Ya' DVD) and every time I've seen it since, because I knew it was true. I know what he's referring to when he talks about divorcing oneself from society, but to me there's only one way to do that completely.

Overall, I would say 'Is the world failing?' type questions will always be subjective to the perspective of those individuals who are asked it. Kind of like religious or political questions which just create heated debates, so I typically try to stay away from them. But either way whatever you believe, I would say what LonelyHiker already said above is good advice.

every bad thing has a good side
When I die, it makes me happy that some cool bugs are going to have a very nice meal, and maybe some flowers or grass will get some fertilizer lol
