If you had to give a commencement speech or a TED talk, what would it be about?
Here is a link to a fabulous commencement speech by David Foster Wallace:
Thanks so much for the tag and posting this cool and interesting cafe Angie
If I were to give a TED talk, it would be about psychological abuse (something I have very unfortunate experience with) and how deeply it can hurt and otherwise impact a person, especially those who are already naturally very sensitive.
It wouldn’t “only” focus on that, but also bullying (especially by family, but in general as well) and other forms of psychological abuse. I would also want to try to open people’s eyes about the many forms of sadistic behavior there is, and how to be as protected from that kind of toxic energy as you possibly can.
There are many people out there unfortunately who do lots of sadistic things, and enjoy doing them. I guess it makes them feel powerful or something, it’s very sad, so the more people can at least be “aware” of those types and how to navigate them, the better imo. They must
never win, no matter what
One more thing I’d include/talk about is the importance of clear, open, honest and tactful communication, and on being responsive. Those definitely seem to be things most people struggle with a lot these days. With any luck, it would encourage them to do those rather simple things in a much better, nicer, more thoughtful and considerate kind of way.
