A study has shown that young adults who regularly attend church (Christianity, Catholicism, etc. Not Judaism or Islam),have a higher percentage of becoming obese by middle age years.

http://newsone.com/nation/newsonestaff4/study-says-church-goers-have-higher-chance-of-obesity/

This is laughable. Fat Christians who scream about abortion, gay marriage and the devil, yet they don't even follow their own book of teachings.
The bible preaches many different times of fasting and to treat ones body like a temple.
Apparently these Christians bring chili cheese fries and donuts into their temples.

This isn't really surprising, the bible belt has a higher proportion of fat people and church goers.
Not surprising, but terribly funny.
This means that all those church goers are nothing but gluttonous sinners.

I am somewhat sad that this is an American study which shows my country as obese, however, I believe the remedy to the situation is to stop Christianity.

It's been used for centuries to control the masses and now they're all so fat they can't get up to fight back.

We could be confusing correlation with causation. I think this reflects the fact that many people who are religiously conservative and pious are also generally less-educated, and thus aren't were versed in nutrition and health. I should finish reading the article before I go further, but that was just my first impression.

Even if they are uneducated, if they're religious they should be reading the bible.
It states that ones body should be treated as a temple.

The seven deadly sins are Lust, Greed, Sloth,Pride, Gluttony, Envy and Wrath

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

And I'm tossing these verses up too.

1 Timothy 2:9

Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What are you going to do with the fat atheists? LoL

BTW, 1/4 of the people in the church I attend are over weight (including me). What does that say about the other 3/4?

A lot of obesity comes from poverty, not having the money necessary to eat nutritious. Going to a food closet means coming home with outdated pastries and crackers.

And a lot of 'povertous'(don't even think that's a word) areas are also very religious, because they don't have much else other than what they think.

It's been used for centuries to control the masses and now they're all so fat they can't get up to fight back.
So Mcdonald's has kinda become an indirect religion. THAY'RE CONTROLLIN' US WITH THEIR SCRUMTIOUS FOODZ! I think we should wave our guns around because it's our right :gun:.

What are you going to do with the fat atheists? LoL
We shall go on a detox. LOL

Or, they're content? Just a thought.
This. They're not worrying so much about vanity or health. I think a religious person is more ready to die than a person who doesn't have religion. I don't think they're doing it intentionally. They just no longer fear death as much. I think that would lead to contentment.

I guess it depends on whether they think god approves of them or not.

Where in the bible does it say to exercise to get into heaven? I don't count the verse that says to treat our body as a temple as meaning that we should exercise. I look at that more as saying don't commit adultery or be perverse.

Remember that a healthy body won't get you into heaven.

Similarly, a lot of passages in the bible about violence have to be understood in context. A lot of people will take verses from the bible out of context to make it look bad. This can be the case for other religions too like Islam.

Btw, I used to be a christian. And ya I believed the earth was 6000 years old when I was growing up.

I'm agnostic now. I play with atheism, but I can't say without doubt that there's no god. I CAN say that it looks like there's no god, but looks can be deceptive. For all I know, I'm just a non-player in a universe program and god programmed it. Angels are players. Or maybe there're no players in this universe program. But I wonder if god ever observes the program while tis running.

There might be no god. I don't know.

I dont buy that obesity is caused by poverty. someone who is truly poverty stricken does not always eat and they tend to be thin.
Someone who is on the borderline of poverty may eat junk food but that is a choice they make. I have been poor and yet i still managed to source fresh healthy food.
I do believe it could be linked to a lack of education as already pointed out and also down to the laziness people fall into about food. a lot of people would rather the food is cooked for them rather than make it on their own, something education could work out of them.
I think it all comes down to lifestyle choices. the fact it correlates with religious beliefs may be coincidental. it could also however be down to the "american christian" way of life.

Clump a group of individuals with individual issues and reasons together and then bash them together and then define their poverty issues?
I think Id suggest getting a punching bag or perhaps breaking it down a bit into individual families or something. Sure there might be a general trend but.. A bit overboard no? Meh I hate religion and the blind followers. One thing I do know, they're easy targets.

I wonder if there's a suicideforum.com report that could parallel this. Fuck it, lets get some people and some specialists and create a commonality. Lets see.. Oh im gonna have to stop myself there..

Oh, so how you choose to interpret the Bible is how it works?
So if I interpret the Bible the way I want, which could mean doing unspeakably horrible things, I could still get into heaven? :P

When speaking of God it's always a good idea to replace certain words with 'Santa' or 'Cthulhu' and see how it looks.

I'm agnostic now. I play with believing there is no Santa, but I can't say without doubt that there's no Santa. I CAN say that it looks like there's no Santa, but looks can be deceptive.

Well it as an argument of sorts; I cannot, without any shadow of doubt, disprove Santa or the Abrahamic God, nor can I conclusively prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that electro-magnetism is the result of photons but that doesn't mean I call myself an agnostic on the front of electro-magnetism. I say it's true because it's a reasonable expectation that it is given a lot of evidence FOR it being true. The same token lets me say there is no Santa because a lot of evidence says he's not. One does not need absolute irrefutable truth to make an assertion reasonably true, they just need evidence that supports it beyond a reasonable doubt.

Have you sold everything you own?
And in Luke 18:22 he says:
“… sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.”
Christians are full of shit, they preach hate, they preach death, and they preach unending pain.
Christens are not moral, they spew hate, and it is time we are done with them.

I will believe in no God that condemn a man to hell. If he does so he is not God and is worse than Hitler.

Why should I praise him?
