If I never seriously attempted suicide before, how successful would I be the first try? Or would it take lots and lots of practice until I got it right?

I think that most attempts fail. Part of that is people change their minds in the middle. Speaking about failed attempts, I had my first and only attempt right around this time of year. I can't talk about methods, but pretty quickly I realized that I just didn't want to be in pain, I didn't want to die.

Life is still quite hard for me, but things have improved a lot for me since then. And I have lots of good reasons to be hopeful.

I'm glad that I didn't die. Life can be really hard, but there are some good reasons to see it through

Hope that things can get better for you soon!
