A mask of beauty and mystery
    so beautiful it appears
i wonder what is behind that mask
that you have worn for years
I think if you could take down the mask
and let others in to see
that the beauty is inside of you
    your spirituality
    you have away of caring
    like you truly understand
you have the eyes that truly see
    the mind that comprehends
    the years bring wisdom yes
    they bring compassion too
why is it you can care for others
    but not for you
    take down the mask okay
    let others help you now
because although you feel safe there
    you have to heal somehow
Your way has help you keep a distance
    a safe place yes indeed
    but sometime in the distance
    you need to trust somebody
i hope someday you see what i see
    behind that mask of yours
a person full of life to share
of survival the will to fight
take down the mask that hides you
let in some sun some light
the true beauty one can see
    is the beauty hidden underneath.

Violet, that is so poignant! It can be heart-wrenching when we can see a person's potential but they cannot yet see it themselves.

I find your poem speaks of hope for the person, though. For surely, if a person can give to others, deep inside they do have the ability to give to themselves.
