    Yes, well,
    you can only understand
if you have been there before
    if you have lived
    while trying to die.
    And, no,
I cannot explain what that means.
    You would try to understand
    you might think you did
    but you would fail.
The moment you posed the question
    as a question
    you would have fallen short
    of understanding.
    This must be so
    in this alternate universe,
    burgeoning inside the normal one,
    in which to succeed
    means to have fully aborted
all chances at any other success.
This is what cannot be told
    cannot be accurately explained
but nonetheless I will try to put it to paper
    the exhaustion,
    restive with desperation,
    the visionary strain,
    that drives one to distraction
and failing to create a superhero
    creates a monster
  2. thank you for posting, i really like this poem, it is incredible that poetry can express what you cannot express otherwise...but I like your last quote about changing the world as well...I really want to change the world too, but it seems that I'm always failing and never good enough as anyone else i see around me...

I'm glad you liked it :).
And as regards the quote, I'm of the opinion that being born an idealist is one of the cruelest life sentences that can be passed down upon a person. I'm one of those odd mixes, I want to change the world, want to believe the best of people, etc, but I'm also a cynic, just a dumb one, despite constantly being disappointed by people (and disappointing them) I keep believing that they just might prove my feelings of disquiet wrong and that maybe someday I might just get it right. Sigh. Life's a tough thing. And wanting to make it better doesn't make it any easier.

I like this one very much. I too am a cynical idealist and know how hard it is to be so, and the headache of constantly bashing my head against Reality's hard Wall.

But still I do it, just to feel something, just to know I'm still (capable of) trying.
