twowolves80 Darkness Incarnate; don't even bother

I wrote this for another poetry site, and I did not expect the end of this one to come out the way it did, so it was a surprise to me how it came together. I figured I'd share it here with you guys. Enjoy.

(If this isn't the proper venue for this, mods please move it for me! Thanks ahead of time!)

    Nowhere To Fly To

    The city steams,
    wet pavement shining
    like glittering rivers of black
    with long yellow fish
    swimming in a line
    underneath the sodium vapor suns
    on every street corner.

    The smell of cool damp
    permeates the hot night air,
    while sounds of televisions
and babies crying drift like fog
    between the concrete sentinels
    staring proudly down
    with cold, uncaring glares.

Quiet things slink in the dark
with beady eyes and graying whiskers
    watching from cardboard caverns
    as the wraiths of poverty
    dart past like nervous hounds
    seeking petty pleasures
    to soothe tired souls.

    Rains come and go
    but don't wash clean
    the dingy evidence
    of impure lives
    punctuated by the sounds
    of sirens and broken glass.

    The cycles of the city
    are the gears of humanity,
    playing the same haunting melody
    over and over again--
    a music box reminding us
    we are made to cry.

    The straining scream
    of frustration rings out--
he has a little black book
    with some poems in it.

    And then the sad tinkling
    of the familiar piano
    begins to play once more...

Thank you for the comment! I wasn't sure if I should, but I have a lot of poetry, and it kind of serves as a cathartic for me, especially considering the reference is something that is a kind of trigger for me. I can't really listen to that whole album anymore, or watch the movie, or I end up somewhere bad...

Poetry is a good release for me too. Sometimes I let out my darker emotions when I write, and that can help me somewhat. I hope you keep posting poetry because I think you have a lot of talent :)

Thank you, although I'm not as confident about the talent...lol But I will do.
