Odd Reasons for Suicide

I read about an elderly couple in India(I think) that committed suicide together because of the death of their beloved pet.

Has anyone heard of any other odd reasons for suicide?

I think it's hard to judge someone elses reasons for suicide. Surely if they feel bad enough to want to end their life then their reason is valid enough and therefore not odd?

i agree with sadsong, i dont think the above example you mentioned was odd atall, it proberly felt like suicide was the only option for the people involved.

Perhaps Jackson meant to say odd in the sense of "unusual?" After all, people don't usually kill themselves after a pet passes away.

Yeah, I'm not saying their reason wasn't valid. Whatever makes someone kill him/herself ought to be taken seriously. Like gmork said, just something that makes you think twice or wonder...part of the unusual minority of reasons.

A pet can become a part of a family or someone's best friend. Would it seem so odd if it was a human they were grieving over eg. a child? I agree with sadsong.

Commiting suicide over the death of a beloved pet doesn't seem at all odd/rare/unusual/unique to me. I love my animals, especially my dogs, and don't know how I'll be able to handle their eventual deaths. I doubt I"ll kill myself over it, but I can understand how someone could feel so deeply to do that.
