On dying alone.

    Why should it make a difference whether you
    Curl up alone, like a dog past it's years,
    Knowing what's coming but not able to
    Or accept.
    And lying alone with your pain,
    So that no one should see.

    Or if you finally loosen the grip on a
    Loved one's hand,
    As they memorise every line, every freckle,
    Fingerprints etched on their fingerprints.
    At the same time, they inhabiting a place far from yours -
    You -
    Impenetrable suffering.

    'Though you did
    Alone, as that dog, foetal on the ground
    Where no one could see your
    But what difference?

    As no one wants to die alone
    But everybody Does.
