One Thing to be Grateful for Each Day

I often go to the animal shelter to donate food, take dogs for walks and
spend time with the animals.
I want to take many of them home…..
My dog is an only child in the pet department. He would be jealous of other pets! He was a rescue dog.
I’m grateful I’m still healthy enough physically and mentally to take care of my elderly🐾dogs with their challenges.
I find doing this VERY rewarding.

Absolutely!! Mine have always been rescues too. That's so wonderful you have a shelter nearby to support and volunteer with. I know, I would take them all home if I could. I have always been a one dog at a time home but 15 years ago I decided to try a second dog in the mix. And then I stopped at a feed store about a year later and they had a bunch in a pen out front and what do I do?.....Picked up a third one*facepalm I have two now remaining. And I get that yours would be jealous if you tried to add another now.....

i think people should adopt rescue dogs if possible. we adopted our two chihuahuas at a shelter. they were 9 years old at the time and had to go together because they were brother and sister. they are 15 going on 16 now. their age is starting to show. the male dog is blind in one eye and is getting grumpy lol, the female s much worse, she is having a lot of accidents in the house even though my wife brings them out and we have 3 pee pads down. she walks sideways and falls a lot and is almost deaf. we just can't seem to make that decision for the female

I agree with adopting from shelters...all our dogs were shelter dogs and they were all wonderful family members! I do miss them. I'm getting my fur baby fix by volunteering at a mini-horse sanctuary near me and with the stop of rain after a week I can go and volunteer this week so am thankful for the sunshine (finally).

That is wonderful. I make regular donations to the shelter here and it is always great to see the critters there and to visit. :)

Long ago I was working at a movie theater. My mom came to watch a movie. When she was leaving she noticed a stray dog in the dumpster eating discarded popcorn. She asked me to load this smelly dirty diseased dog in her car to take home.
She named the dog popcorn.
She gave popcorn a bath,haircut,treated
its wounds. When I asked her why she brought this dog into her home?
Her answer was! Simply this animal has never known love of any kind?
Now he has. That’s why!
Just a + memory I have of my mom and why I like to volunteer at the pet shelter

How wonderful! For them both:)
Do you know what style of yoga she happens to be studying?
I wish I could remember the names, but there are a few different kinds and the nice part is that she shows me, like puts on a little show, I always clap afterwards, lol. One she is doing involves slow continuous movement that looks so pretty. How are you doing Livelife?

i think people should help pet shelters ether time or money. that's where our two chihauhaus come from.

funny story about the local humane society around 43 years ago before it became a no kill shelter. we were looking for a small to medium dog, and my wife was not thinking when she sent me alone lol. i told the shelter what i needed and they tried to give me a big dog. how big? this dog was so big he could put his paws on top of a full size refrigerator and could see and reach everything he wanted lol. after a long tim telling them why i can't have him they finally gave up. they asked me to at least take him for a fnal walk because he was being euthanized tonight. what could i do, after spending time with him i caved in and took him home. he was so big he couldn't sit straight up in the car, he actually had to slouch down. when i got home my wife wasn't happy but that changed quickly. we kived on the second floor and when he ran he would break light bulbs, of course i always bought the light bulbs lol, his name was peewee, half saint Benard half newfoundlad. , a precous shelter memory

Well, I have not a lot of money for the moment. But yesterday a guy was begging in front of the supermarket. We talked and from his accent I knew he was not Spanish (in fact Hungarian). I gave him some money. Unfortunately my apartment is not big enough to house another person - and there is too much risk (he was drinking). Later I regretted this decision a little. Next time I will do better.

you did plenty helping that person and letting a stranger into your home is a bad idea, at least until you know them better. i think it was great to give him money but in the future you may want to ask what he needs. if he says food bring him food and the same if he needs cigarettes or money for a bus ticket or whatever. if he needs drugs or you think he would spend it on drugs see if he wants to stop. if he does then you can help him access that. please realize anything you do is the humane thing to do. food, money or whatever you do. if more people did this it would be a better world
