    (An ‘Enlightened’ Valentine Poem)

    The quest ensues,
    t’is nothing new…
    The battle goes on
    with wishes, and sacrifice,
oh, to be the ‘beauty in the eye’
    …of a certain someone
Oh, to have that heart won,
    and to be forever entwined
    would surely ensure fulfilled delight!

Shy and submissive, or other roles played,
she silently utters her fervent prayers
    “Oh, but to capture attention”,
    the poor girl pleads ~
    Love at first sight
(though she’s heard Love is blind),
    that is the driving seed
    And anon, she covets
    only reciprocation of this need…

Nothing, and no one else will do,
not in this whole wide world
Such “meant-to-be’s” all but consume her!
    Perfection sought
    and bliss finally captured
    enraptured in the moment,
    ah, that they meet…
    at last finding blessed truth,
savouring the beauty of Love’s youth

But then, alas, comes a complication…
The bloom’s worn off with the realization
that Perfection is merely a sorry illusion,
when again, confronted, with that ‘someone’s’ true colours.
At first there are tears through this bitter confusion
But despite these bitter hours, she remembers some words
And now, they appear glad and insightful!
It’s not the first time, but it will be her last…
For “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle!”

i enjoy the theme of your poems, always a hint of anti all things love about them. such a talented pen:smile:

edit - not trying to narrow your work to just anti-love, as you clearly have much broader implications on your mind when you move through the objectives

    well written (again)

  6. Thanks!! Y'all made me not only smile, but laugh!! I keep giggling after reading LS' wee comment...

And yeah, I confess to being rather a cynic about many things (and the implications of things we so often blindly accept, or yearn for...). I, like George Carlin, consider myself a "pessimistic optimist"...
