I'm not sure if this is the place for this.. but this poem was given to me in school by my teacher for peer counselling class.. it really hit me and I hope you guys like it as much as I did!

    Don't be fooled by me.
Don't be fooled by the face I wear,
For I wear a mask. I wear a thousand masks.
Masks that I'm afraid to tak off,
But none of them are me.
Pretending is an art that's second nature to me,
    But don't be fooled.
I give the impression that I'm secure,
that all is sunny and unruffled with me,
    within as well as without.
That confidence is my name and coolness my game,
and that I need no one.
    Don't believe me.
    Please.
My surface may be smooth, but my surface is my mask,
    My ever-concealing mask.
    Beneath dwells the real me,
in confusion and fear, in loneliness
I idly talk in the smooth tones of surface chatter.
I tell you everything that's nothing
    of what's crying within me.
So when I'm going through my routine,
    please don't be fooled
    Please listen carefully,
and try to hear what I'm not saying,
    but would like to say.
Each time you're kind, and gentle, and encouraging
my heart begins to grow wings,
    very small, feeble wings,
    but wings.
    With your sympathy and sensitivity
    you encourage me.
I want you to know how important you are,
how you can be a part of the person that is me
    if you choose to.
    Please choose to.
    Don't pass me by.
It won't be easy for you.
My sense of worthlessness builds strong walls.
    The nearer you approach
the blinder I may strike back.
I fight against the very thing I cry out for,
But I am told that love is stronger than walls.
    This is my only hope.
    Who am I, you wonder?
    I'm someone you know well.
I'm a member of your family.
I'm the person sitting beside you.
I'm a person you meet on the street
    Please dont believe my mask.
    Please, speak to me,
share some of yourself with me.
    At least recognize me.
    Please.

I think this poem can speak to just about everyone in the world. Especially those here. Everyone can say they know at least one person in this world that fits into this poem somewhere, in some line, in some piece, even the whole. I think it's important to remind yourself that everyone puts on some act, and wears some mask, to hide what makes them who they really are. Whether it be a mask of a cool, relaxed and comfortable person or a mask of happiness. When in reality anyone, ANYONE, can be screaming on the inside just to be noticed.. just for someone to give a hoot.

Anyways, I really enjoyed this poem.. and I know that I can relate to this poem well. I wear a mask at school, a different mask at home, and even a mask here.

    Thanks for reading :)

    Wow, that's...just wow.

I think a lot of us can identify with that part...

I know.. it really hit me when I first read it and I so happend to be in school.. in class. But that entire class is like that.. I figured, it affected me so much that it could probably affect people here.. people that I know already have an understanding to some degree...

I'm glad you guys liked it
