"Wait a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing me to hurt the public, and they love him for it? That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas." ~ The Sheriff of Nottingham.

“I shall die here. Every last inch of me shall perish. Except one. An inch. It's small and it's fragile and it's the only thing in the world worth having. we must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.”
Great film, I watch it every 5th of November.

I dont really hold onto quotes, they just sort of pop into my head at times, for example:

"When you cant run, you crawl, and when you cant crawl, when you can't do that, you find someone to carry you." from Firefly.

"We are all equal, but some are more equal than others" from Animal Farm (George Orwell)

But one I really come back to alot:

"Pain and guilt can't be taken away with the wave of a magic wand. They're the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don't want my pain taken away! I need my pain!" from Star Trek 6

I like that last one because I agree with it, I became a lot less selfish after I got depression. There are so many down sides, but it has improved my character endlessly, also, the people I find most worth knowing are the ones who are in one kind of pain or another.

also..

"YOUR TEARING ME APART LISA!" (Serious respect for anyone who gets this without googling it)

Jayne: "You know what the chain of command is? It’s the chain I go get and beat you with ’til you understand who’s in ruttin’ command here. "
A fair amount of my favorite Jayne quotes were from The Message:

"What'd ya'll order a dead guy for?".

"Spry for a dead fella.".

What I get a kick out of is that I have one of those Jayne Cobb hats. Very warm and toasty but I get looked at like I am an idiot. I admit that I AM an idiot. LOL :)

Come on, I think that hat looks mighty cunning.

"Other people are the mirror through which we experience ourselves"

No one said that but me but I like the notion of it and the realization that we can't turn inwards but need others to learn about ourselves

'Cause tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be fifty. And I'll still be doing this shit. And that's all right, that's fine. I mean, you're sittin' on a winning lottery ticket and you're too much of a pussy to cash it in.

There's so many I love, but here's one:

“The feelings that hurt most, the emotions that sting most, are those that are absurd - The longing for impossible things, precisely because they are impossible; nostalgia for what never was; the desire for what could have been; regret over not being someone else; dissatisfaction with the world’s existence. All these half-tones of the soul’s consciousness create in us a painful landscape, an eternal sunset of what we are.”

― Fernando Pessoa

And this!

“I suffer from life and from other people. I can’t look at reality face to face. Even the sun discourages and depresses me. Only at night and all alone, withdrawn, forgotten and lost, with no connection to anything real or useful — only then do I find myself and feel comforted.”

― Fernando Pessoa (The Book of Disquiet)

I go through bouts of reading, and when I was a teenager, I ended up reading more than 20 of the Discworld series back to back, and Terry Pratchett makes for some great quotes:

“It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it's called Life.” - The Last Continent

“If complete and utter chaos was lightning, then he'd be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting 'All gods are bastards!” - The Colour of Magic

“Sometimes glass glitters more than diamonds because it has more to prove.” - The Truth
