  1. Pretence

    We beg, borrow, and steal names
    (yet never do explain)
    from mythology
    to embellish our identity;
    To represent who we might be
    in disguise.
    Yet reference made falls on blind eyes
    and puzzled minds,
    thinking ourselves so clever!
    So no one will ever
    discern who we are
    Yet why do we hide behind
    the pretentious,
    when we merely long
    for someone to know us;
    beyond fear of illusions,
    without confusion;
    Perhaps we are beset by both ourselves

    Why can we not be plain;
    That each of us
    suffers pain
    no matter our place,
    no matter the nameā€¦

    Thanks Least - t'was just a thought that popped into my head about how we pretend, or take on other identities, instead of owning ourselves. We need not be so mysterious, so ...what's the word... obscure. I'm glad someone else shares my feelings...

    No offence meant...
