    Reasons to live

    Just stop.

    Just look out the window and dream.

    Red berries clumped, vivacious and vital

    Bare branches holding delicate stenciled leaves,
    like flowers

    The old woman walks by

    The dog runs,
    little legs propelling, picking up speed;
    dainty velocity.

    The rainbow we could see the end of,
    thick syrupy colour
    streaming into the green of trees

    the fireworks that were a surprise,
    the pop-crackle-bang of them
    that excited me to move as quick as I could;
    shuffling and ill and slow and feeling ancient,
    but with a child’s enthusiasm swiping the curtains aside
    to our own private display.

    Despite our fear, our pain, our worry, our trials,
    our black moods and hopelessness,
    those huge, so-close sparkles and fizzes
    and sizzles and sighs of falling stars
    drew soft cries of amazement
    and exclamations of awe.

    we saw these things

    we will see more

    the changing sky, the spattering rain,
    (hopefully) the blizzarding white of snow,
    the twinkling lights in the distance,
    the winking silver stars

    and we will know we can -

    just stop

    just look out the window and dream.
