I saw this on another website, and thought I would share =]

Reasons To Live

1. Because you deserve to live

2. Because every life has value, meaning and importance, yours is no exception

3. Because you are not alone

4. Because life is precious and does not deserve to be thrown away

5. Because to get this far you are a survivor

6. Because you are connected to each and every other survivor, and so your daily battle automatically give others hope and strength

7. Because you won’t feel like this forever

8. Because like you do not deserve this pain, the people you will leave behind do not deserve the pain you will leave with them too

9. Because you deserve the sunshine that comes after the rain

10. Because each time you confront despair you get stronger, and you can't know now what you will ultimately be able to do with this new morsel of strength and what future battles you will be able to win

11. Because if you die today you will never again feel love for another person, or feel the love they have for you. You will never see the compassion in their eyes and you will never have a chance to share it

12. Because you have already won... you have had the courage and strength to make it this far and no one can take that away from you

13. Because although it feels like it at times, life is not a punishment

14. Because we need survivors to offer testament against this pain and despair

15. Because you deserve the chance to heal and be happy

16. Because you are stronger than the pain

17. Because you deserve the peace that will come after this battle is won. It will be won sometime

18. Because there is a reason you were born and the reason is to live

Hello Deceptibecs,
I think your list will be positive and negative, depends on the person and the way they perceive it. Don't let a little feed back make you stray from what you beleive. I for one say thank you.:chopper:

The list sounds like the fairytale ideal. The hero (=you) will endure much suffering, but persevere and live happily ever after.

Unfortunately reality is not always so kind.

Although this list is undoubtedly posted with the best of intentions and is a very caring gesture, it is at best patronising. The nature of the list has the effect of belittling the problem of suicidal feelings and therefore trivialises the serious nature of the topic.

Further to this many of the points are, from a philosophical position, completely unqualified. Is there any evidence we all deserve to live and that all human life has value? Such points are very difficult to support.

Never the less thank you for posting the list as I’m sure your intentions were good and it is the thought that counts

If you post stuff like this in the HEAL sub-forum you're more likely to get positive responses. Which is why I stay out of there.

This sort of thing leaves me cold, personally, but that's me. In my opinion, it reads like the extended remix version of "Just snap out of it!" that I've heard too many times for it to even bother me any longer. I guess about the only feeling have left for lists of this kind is confusion, as with my responses to items 1-4...

Response: How on earth do you know this for a fact?

Response: Actually, yes, I am. So this statement is false, at least in the sense that there is no one in the world I can honestly express myself to.

4. Because life is precious and does not deserve to be thrown away

Response: Same as [2], how do you know this for a fact?

In any event, look, if this sort of thing floats your boat, knock yourself out, I guess. But I doubt you'll find a very receptive audience here, on balance.

eh to be perfectly honest, I don't mind negative feedback ya know? Like you said, whatever floats your boat. I don't know for a fact that anything on that list is true or false, but at the same time I guess it made sense to me because I've never personally heard the "Just snap out of it!" speech. And personally I like believing that maybe, even though bad shit happened to me, my life does have value. I also like believing that everyone's lives have value ^_^. I'm glad I got any feedback on this at all to be honest heh, I really don't care if it's good or bad =]. I'm sorry the list sounds patronizing, I really didn't mean for it to. It was just something I found on another website, and I thought I'd share it =]

Seeing those three Goddesses in North Hamtpon. I'll always remember them. One girl had a guitar and they were playing on the street. One girl was eating eggs and doritos out of a bag. They were "floaters" my friend said, which I thought sounded just as beautiful as the word I chose "goddesses."
Their freedom and humility is everything I want.
