What songs do you recommend for a sad mood? I was thinking of something along the lines of classical music, but I guess pop music would be OK too. Here are 2 ideas from me:

  • "Pas de Deux" from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite
  • "O Mio Babbino Caro" from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi

My second recommondation probably isn't sad, but to me the melody sounds sad.

Country is not my favorite genre, but if you want to wallow, that's the music for ya :)

Three Wooden Crosses by Randy Travis makes me bawl like a baby.

Also try Don't Take the Girl by Tim McGraw...I can't even read the lyrics without crying.

Oh, and There Goes My Life by Kenny Chesney.

I usually like classical music that is upbeat, like Bach's concertos. I enjoy sad, soothing piano tunes though. I heard some of Nobuo Uematsu's compositions played on piano when I was a kid, after enjoying the originals in ff4 & ff6, and would love hearing more compositions in that style. A request: List some of your favorite somber piano compositions here, and I'll give them a listen.

Meanwhile, I'll just list a few somber alternative or classic rock songs or albums I enjoyed hearing in my youth.

The Doors - The River Knows
Pink Floyd - (albums) Wish You Were Here & Meddle
Nirvana - (album) In Utero
Neil Young - (album) Harvest

Thanks for your replies. The responses seem to be quite varied. I have another one; it's not meant to be a sad song, but the tune just kind of sounds sad to me. I try playing it in my head without the lyrics. Here it is: "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin.

Go to <mod edit: Malcontent - too triggering>
It's meant to be funny but it made me laugh and helped me.

Mozart - Requiem

I'd give you a bigger list but last time I gave a big list of all the 'sad music' I know of... well I got a suprising reply.

Frankly, I recommend happy songs for a sad mood, but if you really want it, then listen to the album, "Pornography" by The Cure. Particularly the songs "One Hundred Years" and "The Figurehead."
