Saw something on the news today about saving money. People made a list of things they would not buy for a period of time. Some saved quite a bit of money. Thought we could try that here. So for 3 months, what will you NOT spend money on.
I will start with my list.

Sweets
Chips (like for snacks)
Books
Amazon.com unless purchase is absolutely essential.
Restaurants, including take out

Hope some of you will add your list.

i Love this post idea!
i have been able to save by Not going into (or anywhere near) stores that i know i will find something i "want". i have also been Not going to amazon or Pinterest. Any extras... for a 3 month list... i will cut my iced coffee (Dutch Bros n Ziggi's) purchases down to 1x a month. i truly need everything else i purchase: meds, groceries, and gas.

I follow money saving posts online.
Ambermarie makes a good point..I started a list at the start of the year of things I need, then I can go back to that when I have the urge to buy something, it can be something off my list.

Since May 26, I have saved a lot of money by cutting out

-junk food (burgers, chips, pizza etc)
-uninstalling uber eats app
-Cutting out soda and drinking water instead
-no more candy, sweets, ice cream
-Cut back cigarettes (from over 20 a day to 4 a day now) I downloaded a quit smoking app and Nicorette gum to help
-Haven't touched a single drop of alcohol

Not only did I save heaps of money, I feel 100x better physically and mentally!

Have a great day all

Great idea but I can't do this at the moment. I don't ever eat out or buy coffees, very rarely buy new clothing so that's all a win. But I have a fence to replace ASAP, flood insurance due that just obscenely jumped again and just paid a seriously huge amount for the medical that recently took place. I'm done, god willing for the rest of the year.

I hope the rest of the year will result in NO new unexpected expenses.

Oops, wish Iā€™d seen this thread back when it was posted, definitely very relevant to me right now lol. Anyway I have had to have a much stricter budget for the last few months due to my savings going down by about half this year.

Things Iā€™ve cut out buying are pretty much anything that I donā€™t ā€œneedā€. I pretty much never eat out, we eat all our meals at home. I sometimes do still buy some ā€œbadā€ kinds of food at the grocery store that I donā€™t ā€œneedā€ but trying to be better about that. I definitely avoid the mall and any stores I know Iā€™ll see something I want in.

I was very tempted to get the next 2 Wild Robot books at the bookstore last week, but instead of buying them brand new, I put my name on the wait list for used copies of them instead. Thatā€™ll chop the price of them in half, and whenever they come in that will be my Xmas present to myself.

Hoping by the end of the year that my savings will be doing much better, it is hard to have such a strict weekly budget, but when savings are back to where I want them then it will all be worth it imo :)

Removing my c card from paupal. Limit eating take-away to once a month or leas, or when absolutely necessary. Buying the leaser priced veggies and fruits in season and local. Making gifts of food or a charity gift in their name for loved ones instead of shopping -which-is-usually-overpriced-stuff-made-in-china-that-they-donā€™t-need.
Staying away from clothing shops. (Step away from the pretty displayā€¦)
Ending my book buying habit; going to the library or used bookstore instead.

I was amazed at all the food at the dollar store yesterday Barb. I went in there to get brownie mix and oil. So much cheaper than ShopRite.
