saw a girls cuts

when i was in town today shopping, this girl walked past me in a vest with her arms all cut up. like fresh cuts which were obviously self harm. i myself can not understand why she would be so comfortable showin the world her self harming ways

whats your view on showing people your cuts and this girl?

it was pretty obvious it was, unless she had fallen into some thorns just on the bottom of her left arm

Well maybe she wanted someone to notice? Maybe she really wants someone to reach out and help her.

Were they really fresh cuts, rather than scars? Because exposing your scars is quite different, I think.

I think this is huge cry for attention. She probably was hoping some random stranger would ask her about it. Maybe she really wanted some help but didn't know how to ask.

Sometimes, just sometimes, people cut for attention...Maybe she was one of those people.

I could understand the scars, but fresh cuts...Not so much...

Or maybe, she just really doesn't care what people think of her.

I agree with That_One_Girl, she could have been doing it or for attention. or simply not care what people thought of her.
Recently I have been trying to be less self conscience (?) about my scars, and have been tryign to go without sleves in places where I don't know anyone. Maybe she was doing the same x

Yeah, I must admit I'm slightly more cagey about new cuts.
Maybe this girl just decided that cutting is nothing to be ashamed of, that it's a part of her. A coping tool (admittedly a bad one, but a coping tool still)

If ANYONE does cut for attention then we must realize that they are still needing some sort of help. To call for attention in that matter is not "normal" and it does no good to call these people just "attention seekers" and such. People who seriously do cut purely for the attention need to help just as well as people who cut to cope.
(I know nobody said this but I try to point this out to everyone)

Other than that, she may be into some sort of kink. Some people get pleasure out of cutting during sexual experiences (being cut, playing in the blood, etc.) so she seriously may have nothing to be "ashamed" about really. It could just be part of her lifestyle.

And it may just be what everyone else said. She may just be trying to seek someone to help her in this manner; thinking someone will notice and help.

There were occasions in the past that I completely forgot about my cuts and didn't hide them. (This is how my husband discovered my dirty little habit.)

Sometimes I couldn't hide the scars. My uniform at work had short sleeves, but not many people notice lowly employees. Only once or twice did someone point them out. This embarrassed me. I didn't want to be seen as an "attention seeker".

Someone mentioned the possibility of kink and fetish. There are also people who perform acts of SI on stage. Usually this involves piercings and being strung up by the skin.

As they say, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one; she was obviously involved in a horrible weed wacker accident.
