• Apologies for the issue with a bizarre redirect on the site earlier today. There was a large server update and an error in an IP address had the traffic routing wrongly. No hacking or anything nefarious and nothing to worry about. Sorry for any stress/anxiety caused. Very best wishes - SF Admin

Here's what I found:

https://www.metanoia.org/suicide/

https://thoughtcatalog.com/danielle-holliday/2015/11/27-things-to-do-when-you-are-feeling-suicidal/

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/suicide/in-depth/suicide/art-20048230

https://www.opencounseling.com/blog/what-to-do-when-you-re-thinking-about-suicide

It's an absolute shame that my only option is to go to an emergency room and
probably get committed to God knows what mental institution/ward.

Frankly, considering what would be involved with that, I'd rather be dead.

IF there was some place within 100 miles, that had simple dwellings, which
I could get some peace and quiet, I'd be there right now.

All these tax-free churches should be doing just that!
This existence seems to be a virtual hell, by design.

At least it gives one an incentive, to end the suffering.
(considering how hard that is to do)

I think you'll only be admitted to an institution if you have absolutely no means to care after yourself. Is that the case? I suppose it's nice to be in your own place. From what I read, other people who went to a hospital or psychiatric ward were not happy there and they wanted to return home.

Hi @The Unknown Philosopher. I don't know if you've ever talked to a doctor or a therapist, but they won't necessarily commit you if you tell them you're suicidal. Therapists and doctors should only commit you if they believe you're an immediate threat to yourself, not just because you're suicidal. Of course it depends on the country you are in, but mental health wards aren't necessarily as bad as you might be imagining. It's understandable not to want to be committed, but if it is what it'll take to ensure you're safe, it's probably a good idea.

Stay safe. *brohug

IF I knew I could get some Xanax, which I was on many years ago and worked great,
to treat the intense anxiety I've been feeling lately, I probably would.

But there's really nothing to look forward to, thanks to Rueben the reluctant contractor
my dysfunctional extended family has hired to build a pole barn which I was planning on
living in being great at doing just enough to keep stringing them along. ('Oh, I'm waiting
still waiting on the permits' is starting to ring hollow)

For now, I'm staying in my Bro's motorhome, crammed in an RV park, nice though it is.
I've been here several months, and I've lost hope of getting out anytime soon.

And 57 with no real future, while dealing with major angst and depression, it starting to
feel pretty damn bleak.

A long time ago, I was taken for an evaluation after a failed attempt, and I was extremely
thankful I wasn't committed after just seeing the waiting room.

Again, IF there was a nice place to go, I'd seriously consider it.

As it is, just the thought of it inspires my desire to call it a life.

A lot of those websites in the first post recommend listening to music but most music,
with lyrics at least, just isn't that appealing to listen to in our condition. [lots of vacuous
and factious lyrics in most music, IMO)

I have found some though, mostly instrumentals, and/or slower.

Here's are some of them; [you may need to slog though YT ads]
